Majestic 11 foot tall horses grace the entrance to many of the restaurants. The horse symbolizes the original Forbidden City in China, which was built for China's first emperor Qin Shi Huangdi.
At P.F. Chang's you are surrounded by a unique environment combining influences of Chinese and American cultures. A panoramic, hand-painted mural depicting 12th century China, is visible from the main dining room and commands attention as the restaurant's centerpiece, while several terra-cotta warriors stand guard. If you owned your own company making all-steel deuce bodies what style of hot rod would you build?
We answer that very question with a masterpiece features on Brookville's new-look roadster and United Pacific's new 5-window coupe.
We take a peek behind the garage doors at a '36 Ford coupe in the build and then step over the fence and back in time to a Colorado junkyard long forgotten. Then in an article with a twist, editor Paul Martinez takes forward into the future for a look at a 3D printed car which is interesting and will have a hot rod connection.
Our event coverage focusses on the huge Barrett-Jackson auction and the fabulous Grand National Roadster Show. All this plus our regular columns and features.

Cruisin' Nationals Drives Custom Cars
To Santa Maria
Courtesy: Dave Alley, KEYT - KCOY - KKFX Reporter

SANTA MARIA, Calif. - By the hundreds, classic cars of every shape, make, model, style and color descended into Santa Maria over the weekend. They all were in town to take part in the immensely popular West Coast Kustoms Cruisin' Nationals car show.
"This is kind of like Mecca for all the Beatniks, we come here every year, this is our our annual run," said Brian Everett, who drove in from Albuquerque, New Mexico.
The event, now in its 34th year overall, returned to Santa Maria for the 7th straight year. This year, more than 800 cars and trucks were in the show, which included a two-day display at the Santa Maria Fairpark. "It's just color, i love the paint, lowriders, all of it, I'm a car guy, I'll take anything you got, just give me something different," said Randy Berg, visiting from Vancouver, British Columbia.
In addition to the cars, which come from all over the United States, the Cruisin' Nationals also brings in thousands of visitors, including many who travel here from out of the country. "One of our club guys is from Ireland, we have guys here from Japan, guys from Australia, they come from all over the world to come to this show," said Joe Cuevas, a truck owner from Cuyama Valley.
Cuevas, who is the local representative for West Coast Kustoms, was here displaying his fully restored and individually customized 1959 Ford Ranchero. The Cruisin' Nationals concluded on Sunday after a successful three-day run in Santa Maria. Among the most popular draws of the event was the Friday night cruise up and down Broadway.
In addition, George Barris , who is known as the "King of Kustomizers," also made an appearance. Barris is best known for creating the iconic Batmobile, which was featured in the original television series in the 1960's.

"Six Turning and Four Burning"
On July 11, 1952, the first B-36 bomber with all-Ford built piston engines, which is also the largest mass-produced piston engine aircraft ever made, was flown at the Carswell Air Force base near Fort Worth, Texas. The last of the B-36s were powered by four J47 jet engines and six Ford built propeller driven engines, given it the phrase "Six Turning and Four Burning".Pushing the bounds of piston engines to the limits, the massive B-36 had six Ford built 4,360 cubic inch radial engines, that made 3,800-4,300hp from its 28-cylinder R-4360-53 Pratt & Whitney "Wasp Major". This power was reached by twin turbo-ing the single supercharger and with Ford's unique direct injection fuel system.Prior to the U.S.A. entering WWII it appeared there was a very real chance that Britain might fall to the Nazi "Blitz", making a strategic bombing effort from Britain to Germany impossible. The mighty B-36 was designed just for this scenario and in 1946 it became the world's first manned bomber with an unrefueled intercontinental combat range of over 5,700-miles. Built and develop from 1946-59 it never saw action in WWII (October 1939-1945), but it arrived just in time for the Korean War (1950-53).The B-36 had the longest wingspan of any combat aircraft ever built at 230 ft. Only 385 were built.

HOT ROD WIRING KIT & TOUR
By Jay Storer (reprint) Courtesy Street Rodder Magazine
The test mule at Sacramento Vintage Ford was Bud Bryan's new '29 roadster pickup. Working under it is wiring guy and all-around guru, Ron Palmer.
Outside of the world of original Ford Model T's, A's and V-8 restoration, most rodders have been unaware that inside the Sacramento Vintage Ford warehouse is a section called "production."
This is where staff utilizes ancient machines to produce concours-stock, cloth-covered wiring harnesses for early Fords that feature all the correct terminals, brass bullet connectors, and other OEM details.
Over the years, those "crossover" guys (lucky stiffs with both a restored Ford or two and a hot rod) would come to the counter at Sacramento Vintage Ford and ask why they couldn't get an old-school wiring harness for their hot rod.
Now it happens that one of the people who make the Ford harnesses is our friend of 40 years, Bud Bryan, one of the pivotal editors of Rod & Custom, a man who was part of the R&C team that got '70-era rodders to start thinking about Flatheads, traditional cars, and long-distance driving to events. After a rod hiatus of eons, Bryan is finishing off a '29 roadster pickup full of collected old-school goodies.

NATIONAL COLLECTOR CAR APPRECIATION DAY The SEMA Action Network (SAN) announced that the next "Collector Car Appreciation Day" will be celebrated on July 10, 2015. The date marks the sixth consecutive commemoration in what is now an annual event to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society. Intended to celebrate the classics of the past and the future, the U.S. Senate helped launch Collector Car Appreciation Day (CCAD) by passing Resolutions each year at the SAN's request. The previous resolutions were sponsored by Senator Jon Tester (D-MT), Senator Richard Burr (R-NC) and Senator Mark Begich (D-AK). The Senators have been strong advocates for the automotive hobby in Washington, D.C., and recognize the integral role collector cars have played in fostering our nation's appreciation for the automobile's unique historical place in our history.

Music...It's deep in our roots. We live it, breathe it and make it kick! In 1973, KICKER's Livin' Loud legacy began as a two-man operation, hand-building professional-speaker systems in a narrow one-car garage. With very few resources and an intense love for music, company founder and current President Steve Irby invented the mobile-stereo enclosure market in his northern Oklahoma community, when he developed the Original KICKER. It was the first full frequency-range speaker box designed specifically for cars and trucks. From that historic moment, delivering concert-like audio quality across a wide volume range with renowned bass and accurate sound has always been the KICKER way. KICKER graces the Stillwater, Okla., skyline and has stayed true to the values from which the company was built. KICKER products are designed and shipped from a 280,000-square-foot facility that houses nearly 200 energetic individuals who constantly push the limits of audio-design technology and performance. KICKER products are currently sold by approximately 1,200 authorized dealers in the United States, and export sales are managed through a network of distributors serving over 2,000 dealers in approximately 50 countries.

Courtesy: Nelson Ireson - MotorAuthority Caught testing in production trim-or a somewhat more naked version of production trim-for the first time, this is the Ford GT. While it'll cost $400,000 and only sell about 250 units per year, the Ford GT has stirred something in enthusiasts everywhere. With its low-slung prototype-racer stance and promise of breathtaking performance, the Ford GT has put the supercar world on notice-though it'll remain to be seen if it can put the lap times on the board to match the world's best. In these first spy shots of the car in testing, we see not just a stripped-down, unpainted GT in testing, we see something that we almost didn't expect: something less than absolute secrecy in the GT development program. "More than" 600 horsepower from a turbocharged 3.5-liter EcoBoost V-6 engine, a carbon fiber and aluminum chassis and body, dual-clutch transmission, high-performance aerodynamics, pass-through tail lamps, and some truly striking design are the sum of the Ford GT's recipe to date. CLICK on the photo to read the complete article and view the additional photos over at MotorAuthority.

His father, starting to get a little nervous, says "You don't even know what a carburetor is.... but I will check it out. Where is the car?"
"In the pool," replies the son.

AMERICAN RESTORATION on the History Channel features Rick Dale and his crew at Ricks Restorations in Las Vegas, Nevada, as they take rusty, beat-up items and restore them to their original glory.
Whether its a giant gas pump from the 1940s or a Hopalong Cassidy bicycle from the 1950s, every restoration is a high-stakes business project where worthless rust is transformed into a valuable collectible. Brace your taste buds, America
Doritos is bringing its limited-edition "Roulette" bags to the U.S.
The packages include what appear to be regular nacho cheese flavored chips. But roughly one out of every six chips is super spicy, even though it looks like every other chip. Or as Frito-Lay VP-Senior Director of Marketing Jeff Klein puts it, "melt-your-face" hot.
Odds were good that PepsiCo-owned Frito-Lay would eventually sell the gambling-themed bags stateside after marketing them in several global markets, including Mexico, where they debuted in 2012. When Roulette launched in Canada last year, the publicity spilled south of the border, including in outlets such as Buzzfeed. "This is a product that has had some real success around the globe," Mr. Klein said. Frito-Lay envisions the company making the product a limited-time offer that comes and goes, like McDonald's McRib sandwich. Bags will appear in U.S. stores for only about 12 weeks. But when measured by distribution, the launch will be the biggest limited edition in the history of Doritos in the U.S., Mr. Klein said.
"I think a lot of people are going to want to do [buy] it once or twice with their friends, but I don't see it as an experience that it sustainable over a 52-week period," Mr. Klein said. "It is something that consumers will look forward to and we'll put a new twist on it every year."

Featuring a new location directly across the street from the Las Vegas Convention Center, and a no-hassle route for vehicles exiting the SEMA Show, the 2015 SEMA Ignited will be easy to get to and include vehicles, food, music, celebrities, demonstrations and the culmination of this year's SEMA Battle of the Builders competition.

"Response to the first SEMA Ignited exceeded our expectations," said Chris Kersting, SEMA President and CEO. "The consumer turnout was outstanding, and the media coverage and social-media interest were greater than we could have imagined."
Plans for 2015 include an efficient, prearranged route for vehicles exiting the SEMA Show, heightened media opportunities, and added consumer-oriented activities.
"With the new location confirmed, we are looking forward to creating the greatest experience possible for those at SEMA Ignited," said Kersting. "We're excited about how the event is shaping up."

OLDEST AIRSTREAM TRAILER
The documented oldest Airstream trailer in the world belonged to Dr. Norman Holman, who built his Torpedo from plans in 1935 and traveled the country with it for decades afterward, as we learned this week from Tin Can Tourists.
Dr. Holman's 1935 Airstream Torpedo is a remnant of history. It is the oldest existing Airstream trailer. The Airstream Trailer Company officially recognized it as such in 1984.
Wally Byam founded the Airstream Trailer Company in the 1930's. He sold plans, kits and partially completed trailers. If you purchased a partially completed trailer, it was still just a shell. You had to install (or hire an electrician to install) the wiring and electrical fixtures necessary for safe and legal operation. You had to install (or hire a plumber and gasman to install) the plumbing and plumbing fixtures or gas lines and fixtures necessary for safe and legal operation. You needed to choose springs, axles, hubs, brakes, wheels and tires, etc., to even begin to roll down the road. Other requirements included mattresses for the beds, a seamstress for curtains, and much, much more. Unlike today, when you may drive into a dealership, buy an RV product, hook it to your vehicle, and drive it off the lot fully functional, owning a trailer or RV product in the 1930's presented many post-purchase challenges
