In 1973, KICKER's Livin' Loud legacy began as a two-man operation, hand-building professional-speaker systems in a narrow one-car garage. Fate of damaged Corvettes uncertain as National Corvette Museum decides to

preserve sinkhole

The sinkhole as seen from the current viewing platform.

Article Courtesy Kurt Ernst

The sinkhole that opened up beneath the Skydome of the National Corvette Museum on February 12 had one unforeseen consequence: It has driven museum attendance (and revenue) significantly upward. So when the museum's board of directors met on Wednesday to discuss the fate of the Skydome display, they decided to preserve the sinkhole as a semi-permanent display.

The plan that the board approved involves keeping a roughly 25-foot-by-45-foot and 30-foot-deep portion of the sinkhole open.

That would give sufficient space for display of two damaged Corvettes, though it's unclear which of the eight cars museum staff will choose for this starring role. The display would be lit both from above (to highlight the cars exhibited) and below (to show the falloff to the cave below), and visitors would have the option of viewing the sinkhole from its edge or traversing a transparent-floored walkway (supported by galvanized steel beams) spanning the chasm.

The display would be semi-permanent, as engineering plans call for the construction of a concrete retaining wall behind and below the exhibit. While the face of the sinkhole would be exposed opposite this, the ground beneath that portion of the Skydome would be reinforced with micropiles to add stability.

Should the appeal of the sinkhole wane over time, this option would give the museum the ability to return the Skydome to its pre-sinkhole state, albeit at an added expense.

FIREROCK  GRILL

The Sheepherder Inn is now THE FIREROCK GRILL

Back in 1913 The Citrus Inn opened in this very building on Folsom Boulevard. Citrus was sold in front of the building to everyone that passed by on busy Folsom Boulevard.

Folsom Boulevard was a main thoroughfare for the gold rush in the mid 1800s. Many immigrants and forty-niners were in search of some of the gold that James W Marshall and John Sutter found in the American River. The railroads that are still visible across the street today were the same railroads that were constructed in the late 1800s.
Rumor has it that over the years The Citrus Inn became many different businesses, including The Edwards Hotel, and at one point, a brothel. Everyone came to the building to eat good food and to have a good time. There was drinking and dancing 'til late at night.

Later, the building became known as Sheepherder Inn. It was a place for Basque sheepherders to come and rest upstairs in the Inn and enjoy a hearty meal downstairs, which probably consisted of meats, fish, lamb stews, legumes, cheeses and Basque cider.

HUMOR ?

Reaching the end of a job interview, the Human Resources Officer asks a young engineer fresh out of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology, "And what starting salary are you looking for?"

The engineer replies, "In the region of $125,000 a year, depending on the benefits package." The interviewer inquires, "Well, what would you say to a package of five weeks vacation, 14 paid holidays, full medical and dental, company matching retirement fund to 50% of salary, and a company car leased every two years, say, a red Corvette?" The engineer sits up straight and says,
"Wow! Are you kidding?"
The interviewer replies, "Yeah, but you started it."

Two lawyers walking through the woods spotted a vicious looking bear. The first lawyer immediately opened his briefcase, pulled out a pair of sneakers and started putting them on.

The second lawyer looked at him and said, "You're crazy! You'll never be able to outrun that bear!" "I don't have to," the first lawyer replied. "I only have to outrun you."

Street Rod Stamps Hit The Streets

June 9, 2014

A new line of stamps celebrating hot rods has hit

the streets.

The U.S. Postal Service has unveiled its Hot Rods Forever Stamps. The stamps depict two 1932 Ford "Deuce" roadsters-a black '32 Ford with orange flames and a red '32.

The first-day-of-issue dedication ceremony took place at the National Street Rod Association Street Rod Nationals East Plus at the York Expo Center in York, Pa., according to a press release. They are available in 20-stamp booklets.

"These Hot Rods stamps mark the beginning of America's fascination with customizing fast cars, said Postmaster General Patrick Donahoe. "And they're just as popular today as they were decades ago. Just like the cars they celebrate, these stamps are timeless in that they're good for mailing First Class letters anytime in the future."

Designed by Derry Noyes of Washington D.C., the two stamps were digitally created by artist John Mattos of San Francisco, the release noted.

World's Second-Most-Valuable
Ford Model A to Cross Block

Most Model A Fords can be found for sale in the $10,000-20,000 range, but the 1931 Ford Model A coupe going up for sale at Auctions America by RM's Auburn Fall auction is expected to sell for about 10 times that sum ($150,000 - $225,000 estimate). If you figure, like we do, that the most valuable Model A is the 20 Millionth Ford built, a 1931 Model A Fordor, that would make this coupe the second-most-valuable example of "Henry's Lady." To be fair, there's more to the Deluxe coupe offered by Auctions America than a pretty little profile.

The 1931 Model  A coupe Auctions America will offer during its sale Aug. 30-Sept. 2 in Auburn, Ind., is part of a car-camper combo assembled in the 1930s, offering the winning bidder a time-capsule car and fishing display and, above all, a handsome package that no one else can claim."This Model A and travel trailer combo is a real find for us," said Auctions America by RM's President Donnie Gould. "Our Car Specialists are always on the lookout for vehicles that grab attention and set us apart from our competition. We are very happy to offer this 80-year-old travel rig with so much genuine nostalgic value and history."

In addition to the nearly 1,500 cars for sale, Auburn Fall will feature a seminar and special display devoted to the 50th anniversary of Carroll Shelby's legendary Cobra and Mustang sports cars.

LORDS OF THE CAR HOARDERS

Every year finding unrestored classic American cars is becoming a thing of the past. But there's a secret treasure trove of automotive relics that still exists: Car Hoards -- the last frontier of the American Classic Car. Now, WWE superstar Chuck Palumbo and hot rod guru, Rick Dore are out to rebuild legendary cars and help car hoarders thin out their stockpiles of classic cars in
LORDS OF THE CAR HOARDS.

Each episode of LORDS OF THE CAR HOARDS features Palumbo and Dore helping car hoarders by offering them a deal: pick one dream car from their overcrowded car collection to rebuild while covering the costs of the remake by parting with and selling other cars and car parts from their massive hoard. Every hoard is a surprise, a treasure hunt, and Palumbo and Dore don't always know what they're getting into.  The pressure is on and they don't always get along, but together they have a passion for cars that touches these hoarders' lives, changing them forever. grace the covers and pages of hot rod magazines, including Rod & Custom, Rodder's Journal and Custom Rodder.

Pair of Cord project cars sell for $64,000 at Jordan salvage yard auction

The value of a well-restored 1937 Cord 812 Supercharged Beverly sedan can easily climb into the six figures while a comparable condition 1936 Cord 810 Westchester sedan is worth slightly (but not considerably) less. At the recent Jordan collection sale in Enid, Oklahoma, one Cord collector walked away with examples of both cars, for a total bid price (excluding buyer's fees) of $64,000.

FAQs For Classic Vehicle And Street Rod Owners

1: How often should I change my oil?

Quite simply - it depends. This certainly isn't the ideal answer, but it is the most honest one. Temperature plays a major role in the frequency of necessary oil change intervals. Every 20░F increase in oil temperature beyond 220░F shortens the life of the oil by 50%. This means cars that run very high oil temps will have much shorter oil life than cars that have moderate oil temperatures. Read On....

Designed Specifically For Hot Rods & Classic Vehicles

Well suited for a variety of hot rods, muscle cars and vintage vehicles. This oil is an excellent choice for big block muscle cars, blown street rods and engines with original seals. Features storage protection additives that guard against rust and corrosion during winter storage.

Good for flat tappet, overhead and roller cam engines. No ZDDP or additives required. Viscosity typical of 15W-50. Formerly referred to as HR1.

The Importance of ZDDP
ZDDP is the critical anti-wear additive in motor oils.
Here Lake Speed, Jr., Certified Lubrication Specialist at Driven Racing Oil™, explains how the proper balance of detergents and zinc are the key to protecting engines.

The SEMA Action Network (SAN) announced that the next "Collector Car Appreciation Day" will be celebrated on July 11, 2014. The date will mark the fifth consecutive commemoration in what is now an annual event to raise awareness of the vital role automotive restoration and collection plays in American society.

The U.S. Senate helped launch Collector Car Appreciation Day by passing Resolutions each year at the SAN's request.

The previous resolutions were sponsored by Senator Jon Tester (D-MT) and Senator Richard Burr (R-NC). Senators Tester and Burr have been strong advocates for the automotive hobby in Washington, D.C., and recognize the integral role collector cars have played in fostering our nation's appreciation for the automobile's unique historical place in our history.
