Music...It's deep in our roots.

We live it,
breathe it and make it kick!

In 1973, KICKER's Livin' Loud legacy began as a two-man operation, hand-building professional-speaker systems in a narrow one-car garage. With very few resources and an intense love for music, company founder and current President Steve Irby invented the mobile-stereo enclosure market in his northern Oklahoma community, when he developed the Original KICKER.

One homeowner is probably not in love with the Oscar Mayer wiener.

The famed hot dog's iconic Wienermobile crashed Friday into the deck and garage of a home in Mount Pleasant when the driver tried to turn the giant hot dog on wheels around in the driveway, police said.

The 22-year-old driver thought she was moving in reverse but went forward and crashed into the home, Mount Pleasant Police Chief Tim Zarzecki said. No one was home. The driver and her passenger were uninjured. The home and vehicle sustained moderate damage, Zarzecki said. No citations were immediately issued.

Oscar Mayer spokeswoman Sydney Lindner apologized for any inconvenience to the homeowner and said insurance would cover the damage. The company has six Wienermobiles nationwide, she said.

An older article but still interesting!

LORDS OF THE CAR HOARDERS

Every year finding unrestored classic American cars is becoming a thing of the past. But there's a secret treasure trove of automotive relics that still exists: Car Hoards -- the last frontier of the American Classic Car. Now, WWE superstar Chuck Palumbo and hot rod guru, Rick Dore are out to rebuild legendary cars and help car hoarders thin out their stockpiles of classic cars in
LORDS OF THE CAR HOARDS.

Each episode of LORDS OF THE CAR HOARDS features Palumbo and Dore helping car hoarders by offering them a deal: pick one dream car from their overcrowded car collection to rebuild while covering the costs of the remake by parting with and selling other cars and car parts from their massive hoard. Every hoard is a surprise, a treasure hunt, and Palumbo and Dore don't always know what they're getting into. Junky hoards mean tight budgets and tight deadlines which is unknown in the custom car world. The pressure is on and they don't always get along, but together they have a passion for cars that touches these hoarders' lives, changing them forever.

Palumbo, the 6'6" athlete and wrestling superstar holds numerous world wrestling titles, including two WWE Tag team titles and four WCW World Tag Team titles. He left WWE in 2008 to pursue his passion for cars and motorcycles. As a longtime hot rod purist, Palumbo is in it to win it.

Dore, a classic car legend known for his vivid imagination, has been in the custom car building game for more than two decades. He's been inducted into numerous automotive halls of fame and his one-of-a-kind creations regularly grace the covers and pages of hot rod magazines, including Rod & Custom, Rodder's Journal and Custom Rodder.

A recent Dore creation, The Black Pearl, won every category in its class at the 2014 Grand National Roadster Show. This body started out as flat sheets of metal!

DANBURY MINT DISCONTINUES IT'S CAR LINE

Danbury Mint's 1935 Ford coupe. Image courtesy Danbury Mint.

Up against an industry-wide trend of rising costs and difficulties dealing with overseas factories, Danbury Mint - the company best known among gearheads for its high-quality, 1:24 scale, shelf-topping classic cars - has exited the die-cast car business.

"Like Packard, Duesenberg and Pontiac, so too has our journey come to an end," wrote the Danbury Mint's Die-cast Product Manager, Art McKenna. "For more than 20 years, the Danbury Mint has been proud to offer what many deem to be the finest 1:24 scale replicas in the world. Unfortunately, our last 1:24 scale replica has rolled off the assembly line."

McKenna said the decision to discontinue the die-cast car line came after the factory in China that produced the models for the company closed. Two years ago, the Danbury Mint's main factory in China closed, leaving it with only its secondary factory to produce a limited lineup of die-cast cars. No reason was given for either factory's closing. "We didn't own the factory, so we couldn't control much of what happened," McKenna said.

Pricing of the models also appeared to play a role in the decision. In a letter that McKenna sent to members of the Danbury Mint's Classic Car Preview Society late last year, he noted that the company was no longer able to cost-effectively produce enough models for that program. Retail prices for the company's die-cast cars had also sharply risen over the last couple of years from about $150 to about $250.

While the Danbury Mint was founded in 1969, it didn't begin producing collectible die-cast vehicles until the late 1980s, starting out with a range of sporty Full Classics like the Duesenberg SSJ and Packard V-12 LeBaron Speedster. McKenna said that over the next quarter century, the company produced hundreds of different vehicles, but that they wanted to make their last die-cast car release - a 1935 Ford DeLuxe three-window coupe - an all-new design and not merely a re-paint of a previous design. Limited to 2,500 pieces, the coupe has already sold out.

Die-cast cars were only a part of Danbury Mint's overall offerings, however, so the company will remain in business selling sports collectibles, coins, and figurines.

Heavy Metal - Hetfield's "Black Pearl"
Wins Custom of the Year Award

Pleasanton, CA - Rock & roll music and custom cars have a lot in common. A creative spirit, immense talent and uncompromising dedication are required to create and reveal the inner soul of a song or a car. James Hetfield has mastered both. His band Metallica sits in the prestigious Rock & Roll Hall of Fame while serving as the face of heavy metal music for decades. His ever-growing stable of custom cars have won hot rodding's biggest prizes. His latest effort, a coach built custom he designed with partner Rick Dore is his most powerful statement yet.

He calls it the "Black Pearl." Last month in Pleasanton, California the car won Goodguys' 2014 Mother's Custom of the Year award during the Goodguys 32nd annual All American Get-Together.

Unlike Hetfield's previous custom sleds, Black Pearl is completely scratch-built. It's not any particular make or model. It's sculpted, handmade aluminum body is inspired by the tear drop contours and seamless body transitions of coach built European and American cars of the 1930s. It rests on a custom built chassis which utilizes the outer frame rails of a 1948 Jaguar.

Southern California's Marcel and Luc De Lay, two of the top coach builders in the world, handled the chores of forming, shaping and building the body. They're one of only a handful of metal shapers, capable of taking on the task of building a one off custom car like the 'Pearl. Said Hetfield of the De Lay's prowess as metal sculptors, "As an artist myself, I see the passion, dedication and perfectionism it takes to be good at your craft. I am humbled by their gift of metal sculpting. The fact that they started with a 8x10 drawing and ended up with a complete car is a testament to the ability of the human mind and hands. It still blows people's minds when they ask what body we started with and we say 'steel sheets.'"

The' Pearl was painted in a luscious deep PPG black by Darryl Hollenbeck of Vintage Color Studio offering a perfect contrast to the brushed brass trim. Inside the cabin is a stellar Ron Mangus interior. Wheelsmith Fabrications made the black artillery style wheels featuring matching brushed brass caps. Under the hood lies a 375-horsepower 302 cubic inch Ford V8 but this car isn't about power - it's about style. It's also about expanding horizons and breaking new ground.

In addition to the Goodguys 2014 Mother's Custom of the Year, The 'Pearl won the Sam Barris award as well as the Custom d'Elegance at the Sacramento AutoRama.

Fellow finalists for the Goodguys 2014 Mother's Custom of the Year award included John Fleming, Asher, OK (1939 Lincoln Zephyr) Brandon Penserini, American Canyon, CA (1955 Cadillac),Mike &Rita Gardner, Livermore, CA (1956 Packard)and Mark & Kelly Skipper, Fresno, CA (1951 Ford Victoria).

Three engineers were riding in a car: a mechanical engineer, a chemical engineer, and a Microsoft software engineer. The car stalled, and they rolled it to the side of the road.

The mechanical engineer popped the hood, looked in and said "Look. The drive belt is loose. All we have to do is tighten it up and the car will work just fine."

The chemical engineer replied "No, that's all wrong. The problem is fuel contamination. We have to drain the fuel, filter it, and then everything will be A-OK."

The Microsoft software engineer told the other two "No, I've seen this problem before. We have to get back in the car, close all the windows, shut down the car, get out, get back in, start up the car, open all the windows, and then it will run."

In Episode 6, see Randy tool around town in several of his Decopod scooters as well as on the Decoson motorcycle.

Hot Rod Magazine named Randy Grubb as one of the top 15 fabricators in the country. The evidence is in Randy's automotive sculptures: Jay Leno's Tank Car, the B-702, the Indy Special, Piss'd Off Pete, the Decoliner, Decoson, and the Decopods.

In 2012 Randy set out to build an edition of 12 Decopods: six bipods and six tripods. In Spring 2014 the edition is nearly complete and Randy discusses the Decopods' lap-panel construction. What's next in the garage? He has plans to use the lap-panels-and-rivets technique to build his next big V-12 roadster, inspired by the 1930s French-curved Bugattis and Delahayes.

Randy's rolling sculptures were covered during the last year by Cycle World and Car Kulture Deluxe magazines. His Decoliner appeared on the cover of RV Life in November 2013 and he and his Decopods were featured in February 2014 on Jay Leno's Garage.

In Germany Randy was featured by Auto Bild, Auto Mobil, Spiegel, and Motorrad magazines.

Last October Randy was chosen as a panelist by the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena, California. Randy appeared alongside Freeman Thomas, the Director for the Strategic Concepts Group of the Ford Motor Company. Thomas created the new Beetle concept car.

And in March 2014, Randy starred in a two-minute feature: 2014: A Metal Odyssey, in which a man is transformed into Metal Man by a mysterious monolith.

AMERICAN RESTORATION on the History Channel features Rick Dale and his crew of loose screws at Rick´s Restorations in Las Vegas, Nevada, as they take rusty, beat-up items and restore them to their original glory.

Whether it´s a giant gas pump from the 1940s or a Hopalong Cassidy bicycle from the 1950s, every restoration is a high-stakes business project where worthless rust is transformed into a valuable collectible. However, these restorations aren´t easy. Every project presents unique challenges for Rick and his team.

When it comes to restoration, Rick Dale is the Pawn Stars go-to guy. AMERICAN RESTORATION follows Rick's work as owner of Las Vegas-based Rick's Restorations, a family business that finds, restores and up-cycles cool objects ranging from Cadillacs to Coke Machines.

FAQs For Classic Vehicle And Street Rod Owners

1: How often should I change my oil?

Quite simply - it depends. This certainly isn't the ideal answer, but it is the most honest one. Temperature plays a major role in the frequency of necessary oil change intervals. Every 20°F increase in oil temperature beyond 220°F shortens the life of the oil by 50%. This means cars that run very high oil temps will have much shorter oil life than cars that have moderate oil temperatures. Read On....

Designed Specifically For Hot Rods & Classic Vehicles

Well suited for a variety of hot rods, muscle cars and vintage vehicles. This oil is an excellent choice for big block muscle cars, blown street rods and engines with original seals. Features storage protection additives that guard against rust and corrosion during winter storage.

Good for flat tappet, overhead and roller cam engines. No ZDDP or additives required. Viscosity typical of 15W-50. Formerly referred to as HR1.

The Importance of ZDDP
ZDDP is the critical anti-wear additive in motor oils.
Here Lake Speed, Jr., Certified Lubrication Specialist at Driven Racing Oil™, explains how the proper balance of detergents and zinc are the key to protecting engines.

FIREROCK  GRILL

The Sheepherder Inn is now THE FIREROCK GRILL

Back in 1913 The Citrus Inn opened in this very building on Folsom Boulevard. Citrus was sold in front of the building to everyone that passed by on busy Folsom Boulevard.

Folsom Boulevard was a main thoroughfare for the gold rush in the mid 1800s. Many immigrants and forty-niners were in search of some of the gold that James W Marshall and John Sutter found in the American River. The railroads that are still visible across the street today were the same railroads that were constructed in the late 1800s.

Rumor has it that over the years The Citrus Inn became many different businesses, including The Edwards Hotel, and at one point, a brothel. Everyone came to the building to eat good food and to have a good time. There was drinking and dancing 'til late at night.

Later, the building became known as Sheepherder Inn. It was a place for Basque sheepherders to come and rest upstairs in the Inn and enjoy a hearty meal downstairs, which probably consisted of meats, fish, lamb stews, legumes, cheeses and Basque cider.

Over at the Blue Collar Customs OPEN HOUSE on Sunday.
Shown above: Scott Mugford (L) and Bill Watson (R) and Scott's Model A.  Bill Watson drove this Model A to high school and then raced it in the early 70's.

Scott purchased the car from Bill about 15 years ago, and has remained pretty much unchanged.  The drivers window is still maked with the class Bill, and Scott has preserved it!

Metallica Fan? James Hetfield has decided to sell one of his very early projects that Blue Collar Customs has had in a corner of their shop for some time now.  More photos are in the photo gallery.
