Quite possibly the most well-known accolade in hot rodding -the Amercia's Most Beautiful Roadster award- originally came into being as a publicity stunt. When Al and Mary Slonaker were busy organizing the first National Roadster Show (later to be called the Grand National Roadster Show) for 1950, Al came up with the idea of having a magnificent trophy to really impress people and call attention to the show-and it worked.

Step into Surf City Garage and you are transported back in time. There before you is a Flying A gas station, just like it was in the 50s. A '68 Shelby GT-500 sits at the pumps.
You walk through the Shelby Showroom past a 22-foot-long neon Buick dealership sign and head toward Corvette Corner. In front of you is a red and white '58 Corvette, the first car I ever restored. Just to your left is my wife's '54 Polo White Corvette. Straight ahead an original Chevrolet Super Service sign signals your entry onto Chevrolet Way, where you're greeted by a '66 turquoise and white Bel Air hardtop. Next, you reach MOPAR Alley on your right, flanked by Pontiac Row on your left.
On the wall is a huge neon Pontiac dealership sign. Looking down, you see a '67 Cameo Ivory GTO Coupe. You're now at the other end of our garage and you enter a complete restoration shop. OPTIMAŪ Ultimate Street Car Title
November 9, 2013 (PAHRUMP, Nev.)
The Sixth Annual OPTIMAŪ Ultimate Street Car Invitational, presented by Royal Purple Synthetic Oil and K&N Filters, successfully hosted a full field of 58 participants driving the world's best street vehicles, in front of the largest spectator crowd the event has ever seen.
A day full of amazing vehicle performances, impressive lap times and surprising finishes made for the most memorable display of competition in OPTIMA Invitational franchise history. Ultimately, Brian Hobaugh was crowned the overall winner, driving his 1965 Corvette to top finishes in the Ridetech Street Challenge Autocross as well as the Wilwood Disc Brakes Speed Stop Challenge.
The competition was very close, with defending champion, Mark Stielow driving a 1967 Camaro and former OUSCI Champion, Danny Popp piloting his 2010 Camaro, built by Lingenfelter Performance Engineering.

Pebble Beach Class-Winning Dick Flint Roadster to Crossed the Block

Hot rods don't really come any more storied, recognizable, or influential than the Dick Flint roadster. It raced at El Mirage, it spiffed up for multiple magazine covers in the 1950s, and after a no-holds-barred restoration, it won its class at the Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance. And next month it may very well set a record for world's most expensive hot rod when it comes up for sale at RM's Art of the Automobile auction.
A World War II Navy veteran and member of the Glendale Sidewinders, Dick Flint returned home to postwar Southern California to work at Alex Xydias's So-Cal Speed Shop and began assembling the pieces for the hot rod he'd been dreaming about for years. RM's pre-auction estimate for the roadster ranges from $700,000 to $900,000, which would surpass the McMullen 1932 Ford roadster's $700,000 selling price from last November, believed to be an auction record for hot rods. The Butch Gardner Clubhouse will be in The Pavilion and up to another 500 vehicles will join the event Saturday and Sunday outside in the Building 'A' lot for the
Autorama Drive-In.
Over 500 show vehicles will compete for awards
inside all of the Cal Expo buildings.
This year's show theme is Need for Speed. Cars and vendors are encouraged to decorate with the theme.

AMERICAN RESTORATION
 AMERICAN RESTORATION on the History Channel features Rick Dale and his crew of loose screws at Rickīs Restorations in Las Vegas, Nevada, as they take rusty, beat-up items and restore them to their original glory. Whether itīs a giant gas pump from the 1940s or a Hopalong Cassidy bicycle from the 1950s, every restoration is a high-stakes business project where worthless rust is transformed into a valuable collectible. However, these restorations arenīt easy. Every project presents unique challenges for Rick and his team. 
When it comes to restoration, Rick Dale is the Pawn Stars go-to guy. AMERICAN RESTORATION follows Rick's work as owner of Las Vegas-based Rick's Restorations, a family business that finds, restores and up-cycles cool objects ranging from Cadillacs to Coke Machines. SHEEPHERDER BAR AND GRILLE
The Citrus Inn opened in 1913
in this very building on Folsom Boulevard. Citrus was sold in front of the building to everyone that passed by on busy Folsom Boulevard.
Folsom Boulevard was a main thoroughfare for the gold rush in the mid 1800s. Many immigrants and forty-niners were in search of some of the gold that James W Marshall and John Sutter found in the American River. The railroads that are still visible across the street today were the same railroads that were constructed in the late 1800s.
Rumor has it that over the years The Citrus Inn became many different businesses, including The Edwards Hotel, and at one point, a brothel. Everyone came to the building to eat good food and to have a good time. There was drinking and dancing 'til late at night.
Later, the building became known as Sheepherder Inn. It was a place for Basque sheepherders to come and rest upstairs in the Inn and enjoy a hearty meal downstairs, which probably consisted of meats, fish, lamb stews, legumes, cheeses and Basque cider.

I'd help my dad with logging, or we'd use a truck when he worked as a mason. Dad had a drinking problem for several years, and I left home when I was 15. I started working for a guy who had a small cattle ranch until I got married at 17. In 1964, I was 21 when I bought my first semi. It was a 1963 Chevrolet with a 327-cubic-inch gas engine. I started working for Mayflower Moving & Storage, making $13,000 to $14,000 a year, which was a lot of money then. Gas was 25Ē a gallon, and I didn't waste any money. Rolls-Royce vs YugoA guy driving a Yugo pulled up to a stoplight next to a Rolls-Royce. He rolled down his window and shouted to the driver of the Rolls. "Hey, buddy, that's a nice car. You got a phone in your Rolls? I've got a phone in my Yugo!" The driver of the Rolls looked over and said snobbishly, "Yes, I have a phone." The driver of the Yugo said, "Cool! Hey, you also got a fridge in there, too? I've got one in the back seat of my Yugo!" The driver of the Rolls, much annoyed, says, "Yes, I have a refrigerator." The driver of the Yugo said, "That's great, man! Hey, you got a TV in there? You know, I got a TV in the back seat of my Yugo!" The driver of the Rolls, quite irritated by now, replied, "Of course, I have a television. A Rolls-Royce is the finest luxury car in the world!" The driver of the Yugo said, "Yes, a very cool car! Hey, you got a bed in there? I got a bed in the back of my Yugo!" The driver of the Rolls, upset that he did not have a bed, sped away and went straight to the dealer, where he promptly ordered a bed to be installed in the back of his Rolls-Royce. The next morning, he returned to pick up his car, and the bed looked superb It came complete with silk sheets and a brass-trimmed headboard. It was clearly a bed fit for a Rolls-Royce. So the driver of the Rolls began searching for the Yugo. He drove around all day and finally found the Yugo late that night. It was parked, with all the windows fogged up from the inside. He got out and knocked on the window of the Yugo. When there wasn't any answer, he continued knocking and knocking until finally, the owner of the Yugo lowered the window, and stuck his soaking wet head out. "I now have a bed in the back of my Rolls-Royce," the driver of the Rolls stated arrogantly. The driver of the Yugo looked at him narrowly and said, "You got me out of the shower to tell me that?!?!"

THE BLACK EDGE STORY - SURF CITY GARAGE

The wax you see before you is very special. In fact, it is so important to all of us at Surf City Garage that we dedicated our entire booth at this year's SEMA show to this single container of wax. The attention that we have given to it has nothing to do with the fact that it is in a 24K gold custom container. The reality is that, at a retail price of $12,500, few people will ever have the opportunity or desire to try it on their favorite ride. Indeed, we never considered cost when we created this wax, nor should we have. But this wax does have a story behind its creation, and we hope you enjoy reading how the World's Most Expensive Automobile Wax came into being.
The story of Black Edge™ is really a story about a car, a man and a chance meeting in 2009 while attending the Concours d'Elegance at Pebble Beach. While admiring the motorcycles on display, I was introduced to a European gentleman named Antonio. A very formal and polite fellow, he explained to me that he was the Master Valet for one of the largest private collections in all of Europe. A Master Valet is a fancy European name for a Chief Detailer and, in Antonio's case, he was the Master Valet for some very rare and expensive automobiles. He could not have been more different than the detailers we know and love at Surf City Garage. I seriously doubt Antonio ever owned a t-shirt with anyone's logo on it.
