A man stumbles up to the only other patron in a bar and asks if he could buy him a drink.
"Why of course", comes the reply.
The first man then asks: "Where are you from?"

Petersen Automotive Museum selling a third of its collection to fund new focus
 When businessman and car collector Peter Mullin recently took the reins of the Petersen Automotive Museum, many saw a sea change in that museum's direction on the horizon. As the Los Angeles Times reported this week, that change has already begun to affect the very heart of the museum, namely the vehicles held within its collection, as about a third of the vehicles have been sold or put up for sale.
As the museum relies on both private and corporate benefactors for funding, the sale of a large portion of the Petersen's collection would likely trigger alarm bells. To date, sales have been discreetly handled by auction house Gooding & Company, which sold a dozen former Petersen vehicles for a reported $8.5 million at its Amelia Island auction. While a dozen vehicles out of a collection of more than 400 may be viewed as insignificant, another 107 vehicles from the Petersen collection are scheduled to cross the block next month at Auctions America's Burbank sale.

WHAT WILL HAPPEN WITH THE UNSOLD
GREEK WESTERGARD?

The auction was held on June 15, 2013. However the car did not meet its reserve and is not sold. It was estimated to bring: €80,000 - €100,000 ($124,208.00 - $155,260.00).
The Westergard Mercury was restored by a team of people put together by Custom Car enthusiast Jack Walker. Jack is also known for his Hirohata Merc clone. Jack sold the Mercury after its restoration to a Nevada Car Museum.
A few year later it was auctioned by the museum at the RM auctions Icons of Speed & Style were it was sold for $75,000.- plus 10% auction fees. The buyer had to pay $82,500.- for it. Not really the right price for an original Harry Westergard Custom. However the far from period perfect restoration and uneven candy apple finish might have to do with this.

Step into Surf City Garage and you are transported back in time. There before you is a Flying A gas station, just like it was in the 50s. A '68 Shelby GT-500 sits at the pumps.

GARY MEADORS & SAM FOOSE TO SELECT GOODGUYS WEST COAST NATIONALS BUILDER'S CHOICE AWARDS  Goodguys Founder and Chairman Gary Meadors (R) along with his friend Sam Foose (L) (Chip's dad) will join together to select the Builder's Choice awards at the Goodguys 27t West Coast Nationals presented by Flowmaster August 23-25 at the Pleasanton Fairgrounds.
The special occasion reunites these two industry legends to hand pick the top ten cars at the event. Not an easy task at an event that draws the nation's finest '72 & earlier rods, customs, classics and muscle cars!
Meadors and Foose's friendship dates back to the 1970s when they met at what else - a rod run! In the 80s, Meadors had both Sam and Chip do a complete rebuild of his '32 Ford tudor which has served as the Goodguys logo car since Goodguys incorporated in 1987. In the early 90s, Sam and Chip teamed up yet again to design a '33 Ford roadster for Gary's wife Marilyn Meadors. They are both members of the Grand National Roadster Show Hall of Fame.
Meadors, who usually just gets to make one award pick per event (the Goodguys Pick), is excited for the opportunity. "Sam is hands down one of the finest metal men and visionaries in contemporary hot rod & custom design. His eye and his old world craftsmanship is second to none. Chip Foose will tell you the same thing. If I can hold up my end of the bargain, I think together we can pick some bitchin cars at the West Coast Nationals."
To have your car considered for a West Coast Nationals Builder's Choice selection, you must park in the Builder's Choice parking area (out on the west grass lot under the shade trees adjacent to the swap meet) Saturday 8/24 from 7am-Noon. Only ten cars will be selected!

SHEEPHERDER BAR AND GRILLE
The Citrus Inn opened in 1913
in this very building on Folsom Boulevard. Citrus was sold in front of the building to everyone that passed by on busy Folsom Boulevard.
Folsom Boulevard was a main thoroughfare for the gold rush in the mid 1800s. Many immigrants and forty-niners were in search of some of the gold that James W Marshall and John Sutter found in the American River. The railroads that are still visible across the street today were the same railroads that were constructed in the late 1800s.
Rumor has it that over the years The Citrus Inn became many different businesses, including The Edwards Hotel, and at one point, a brothel. Everyone came to the building to eat good food and to have a good time. There was drinking and dancing 'til late at night.
Later, the building became known as Sheepherder Inn. It was a place for Basque sheepherders to come and rest upstairs in the Inn and enjoy a hearty meal downstairs, which probably consisted of meats, fish, lamb stews, legumes, cheeses and Basque cider.

SPIELBERG'S 1971 FILM: 'DUEL'  While traveling through the desert for an appointment with a client, the businessman David Mann from California passes a slow and old tanker truck. The psychotic truck driver feels offended and chases David along the empty highway trying to kill him. As the Mopar Blog pointed out this week, the entirety of the 1971 Made-For-TV (and later, theatrically released) film 'Duel' is now on YouTube. According to Allpar at the Mopar Blog they used both 1971 and 1972 Valiants make the 1971 Spielberg film Duel. In some scenes they even used Darts.  Fun fact: The 149PCE California blue plate that Mann's Valiant wears was incorrect for the early 1970s - California wouldn't issue plates with the PCE suffix until later in the 1970s, but it appears that the California DMV reserved PCE-suffix blue plates for use by Hollywood when the blue plates came out. Her boyfriend asks, "What is it supposed to be when it's finished?" The blonde says, "According to the picture on the box, it's a tiger." Her boyfriend decides to go over and help with the puzzle. She lets him in and shows him to where she has the puzzle spread all over the table. He studies the pieces for a moment, then looks at the box, then turns to her and says, "First of all, no matter what we do, we're not going to be able to assemble these pieces into anything resembling a tiger". "Second, I'd advise you to relax. Let's have a cup of coffee, then put all these Frosted Flakes back in the box."

NSRA STREET ROD NATIONALS PLUS

Over 10,000 street rods, customs, muscle cars
and street machines
will be on hand at the Kentucky Expo Center this summer as the National Street Rod Association® presents its 44th Annual Street Rod Nationals Plus. The dates for the city's largest vintage car show will be August 1, 2, 3, 4, 2013. This will be the 19th time the NSRA Street Rod Nationals Plus has been held in Louisville and an all time high number of participants and spectators are expected this year. Almost all of the Kentucky Expo Center will be utilized for the event as well as many of the buildings, which will house over 350 manufacturer and dealer displays and other attractions.  The host organization, NSRA, defines a street rod as a modernized vintage vehicle that must be of pre 1949 manufacture. These vehicles are equipped with the latest options available on the newest model vehicles, including but not limited to disc brakes, air conditioning, cruise control, and tilt steering wheel. Most of those attending have updated the engine and drive train to enable the owner to cruise down the highway in comfort and safely maintain the speeds traveled by more modern vehicles.
