LITE Team Advances District Technology in the Classroom

The Lakeport Innovative Technology Educators (LITE) Team has been busy providing support for LUSD teachers. Approximately 65 LUSD teachers attended a half day training provided by the LITE Team on August 10. Teachers were asked to choose classes to support their needs and interests in a variety of topics including Google Classroom, use of available software programs and technology resources, and troubleshooting issues with technology. The teachers all appreciated the opportunity to practice the skills needed to expand the use of technology in Lakeport Unified.

LITE Team members Melanie Sturr, Shanna Lee, Nicki Goodwin and Kristen Hiatt have recently been providing individual support for teachers who want to expand the use of Google Classroom. Google Classroom is an application that allows teachers to efficiently share assignments and information with students. It also allows teachers to provide feedback about student performance on assignments in real time. Students can also work with one another on assignments that are completely computer based. Teachers who are interested in implementing Google Classroom are encouraged to contact Joe Aldridge, director of Student Services, to arrange for individual support from a LITE member.

Food Services Department Conducts Taste Test
On October 1, LUSD Director of Food Services Jackie Courtney and Dietetic Intern Erin Lassig conducted the first of monthly taste tests at Terrace Middle School. Two students from each class were selected to serve as culinary judges. They were each treated to samples of both ham and vegetable quiche and cold chicken pasta salad.

The kids completed a rating of the dishes after tasting them and were also asked for suggestions about how to make the selections more appealing to students. The first taste test revealed that the majority of the kids loved the quiche, but didn't care for onions in pasta salad.

The Food Services Department intends to include the foods that were popular with the kids in the monthly school menu.

Thank you to Jackie and Erin for organizing the taste test and continually working to improve the nutrition of our students!
