Gilman Scholarship

Study/Intern Abroad, URM Students, High Financial Need

Elizabeth Awoyungbo, 2016 Gilman Scholar

Students studying or interning abroad for at least 28 days during Summer or Fall 2016 start writing Gilman Scholarship applications immediately and finish in February. We provide strong support. GPA is not important, but the ability to solidly reason of why to study or intern abroad and how s/he meets the foundations criteria is necessary. This financial need scholarship is for students with a Pell Grant and aims to support those underrepresented in study abroad especially (but not only) those headed to non-Western countries. The Gilman can be used in combination with other funding such as Purdue Moves.

I Sent a Referral,
What Next?

We research the students and, if we believe there is a scholarship or grant the student could be a candidate for, we email the student and mention your name. Each scholarship/grant has its own criteria, which vary in combinations of academic merit, citizenship, expected graduation date, funding purpose, etc. Students who do not meet minimum criteria for any of the scholarships or grants we coordinate for Purdue are not contacted. If we do contact your referral, the onus is on the student to contact you to say thank you, whether interested or not in our offer to attend an information session or workshop. Students may also make an appointment without a referral; whether self-motivated or prompted by you: [email protected]
