Absolute Minimums
With inventory items, you can establish a maximum and minimum value. These values determine the minimum amount of this item you want in your store at all times and the maximum is the limit of the specified item you want in your store. A new feature in the Inventory File is the Absolute Minimums button. This week's newsletter is going to inform you about this feature as well as how to setup Absolute Minimums for your inventory items.

Overview

If you go to IC | Inventory File and locate an item, you can see various information regarding the item. In the middle of the General tab (near the Min and Max fields), there is a button called Abs. Min.
Clicking on this button will bring up the Absolute Minimum Values window. Absolute Minimums allows you to setup a minimum quantity for each of the twelve months of the year. This is very useful for seasonal items, like snow shovels. You don't need as many snow shovels in the warmer months as you will need in the snowy months.

Setup is very simple. Simply enter the minimum value in each of the monthly boxes to establish the Absolute Minimum for that specific month. Once all of the months have values in them, click OK. There are three shortcut buttons in the bottom left that allow for a quicker setup of Absolute Minimums.
The first button will set all monthly minimums to zero. The second will set them all to the current minimum as set on the General tab of the Inventory File (the current value is shown to the right). The last button will set all values to the current onhand (also shown to the right of the button).
Once the Absolute Minimums are established, you can see a breakdown to the left of the button, showing each quarter and the minimum value for each month.
