Windows Updates
Updating Windows is very important! Microsoft is constantly finding ways to improve their product and make it run more smoothly. However, Windows tends to perform these updates at times where your TransActPOS is processing files. This can cause a lot of problems, since Windows generally needs to restart after installing updates. Luckily, you can change the settings to allow these updates to perform when you are ready for them. In this week's newsletter, we will discuss how to change this setting, depending on your operating system.

Windows 7 Windows 8
To begin, click the start menu orb in the lower left corner of the screen and click Control Panel. Once this window appears, change the "View by:" to either Small Icons or Large Icons. This is in the upper right corner of the window. Once this is done, scroll down to the bottom and click on Windows Update.
On the left side of the Windows Update screen, click Change Settings. You can now click the drop down menu and select the update scheme you want. We recommend you select the second option (Download updates but let me choose whether to install them). This will automatically download the updates, but allow you to choose the best time to install them.

In Windows 8, there are many ways to access the Control Panel. The quickest way is to move your mouse cursor to the upper right corner of the screen, bring up the sidebar, and click Settings. From here, you can select Control Panel.
From here, the process is identical to Windows 7. Change the "View by:" to Small or Large Icons, click Windows Update, and Change Settings. The drop down menu contains the same options as Windows 7, so select the "Download updates but let me choose whether to install them" option.
