Product Codes

TransActPOS is setup to handle many different pricing options for inventory items. This week, we are going to discuss one of these options. Product Codes are a way of lumping multiple items into a unique pricing option. The different pricing options available in the Product Code Matrix are as follows:

  • Retail -
  • Catalog Cost +
  • Average Cost +
  • Catalog Cost GM (Gross Margin)
  • Average Cost GM
  • Manual
  • None

Below, we will look at how to set up the Product Code Matrix as well as explain a little further what each price option gets you.

Product Code Matrix                                                     Applying Product Codes
To access the Product Code Matrix and establish your prices, go to IC | Support Files | Product Codes. This will open the Product Code Matrix. This will open a table with Groups A-F along the top and the different Product Codes on the left side.

To establish a price option for a particular group and product code, select the option from the drop down menu and then enter a percentage in the field beside it. Retail -, Catalog Cost +, and Average Cost + simply take the original value and subtract/add (respectively) the percentage you entered. The options with GM will allow you to gain the entered percentage as your gross margin (based on the cost selected). Manual will just set the price at the amount entered on the matrix screen.

Once you have set up the Product Code Matrix, you now need to apply the product codes to the inventory items you want this pricing for. Locate the item in IC | Inventory File and go into edit mode. On the General tab, select the product code from the drop down menu to apply the product code pricing to this item.

Finally, to utilize the product code pricing, customers will need be assigned to the various group pricing. Go to AR | Customer File and locate the customer you want to receive the product code pricing. On the Settings tab, go into edit mode and select the group desired from the Pricing drop down menu. This will need to be done for each individual customer to ensure they are getting the new product code pricing.

Product Code Tip
If you are wanting to assign hundreds or thousands of items a product code, chances are you don't want to locate every individual item and assign it that way. Using the Mass Item Changes tool in
IC | Maintenance will save you a lot of time. Next week, we will look more in depth at this tool, but if you want to learn more now, click the Help Center button within TransActPOS and search  for "Mass Item Changes."
