Disaster Solutions

When disaster strikes, you want to be prepared. From a power outage all the way to a building fire, disasters can happen to anyone. Being prepared could mean anything from having insurance to having a disaster plan. Did you ever think about the data on your computers? What about your hardware? In certain cases, disasters can wipe out hours of hard work in the blink of an eye. We at TransActPOS have seen people go through hardship when it comes to disasters and are here to offer solutions that can help you stay active even in the face of disaster.

Data Backup

Having data backed up can save you numerous hours if something goes wrong. Local backups are easy to do, but not very safe. eTegrity offers an off-site backup service that keeps all of your data safe and secure from any kind of disaster. eTegrity offers a state-of-the-art storage facility complete with fire suppression systems, backup power sources, and redundant storage networks. They also offer the latest in network and system intrusion systems, ensuring the highest level of protection for your vault. Plus, all files are encrypted from the moment they leave your network.

Using their DS-Client software allows you to restore any and all of your data in a matter of minutes. Our Help Center offers assistance in getting this software installed and steps required to get your data restored. Another piece of software they offer is DS-User. This program allows for local backups and restoring of data. It is wise to have both systems (off-site and on-site) in place in order to maximize your safety when it comes to data backup. Go to the Help Center within TransActPOS and search for "etegrity" to learn more about this process.

Battery Backup

Around this time of the year, power loss can be a huge disaster. Even for a few seconds, power loss could lose much hard work and time spent on reports, adding/receiving inventory, sales, and much more. Something that should be a keystone of your disaster plan is the use of uninterruptable power supplies, or UPS. A UPS gives you much needed time in the event of a power outage to save and finish up your work and safely turn off your equipment. Even if you have these in place, making sure the battery is still charged and current is crucial.

Most battery backup solutions have many outlets for plugging in equipment. Ensuring the devices are plugged in the correct outlet is crucial in making sure you don't lose power to these machines in the event of a power outage. In the picture below is an APC brand UPS. On one side, it says "Surge Protection," meaning anything plugged into that side will only protect the device from power surges. The other side, "Battery Backup + Surge Protection," offers battery backup in addition to the surge protection. Devices we recommend to be plugged into the battery backup side are the computer, monitor, router, and network switch. This will allow you to have access to your workstations and network for a few minutes after the power has gone out. In our Help Center, we offer tips and even a video on using a UPS. Click on Help Center in TransActPOS and search for "Battery Backup" to view this information.

Testimonial

Lexington Home Center in Mississippi experienced a store fire back in 2011. They suffered a 100% loss of all computer equipment in the store. This fire occurred on an early Thursday morning around 2:00 am. This caused business to come to a halt for Thursday. Later that day around 6:00 pm, they picked up a laptop to get things running again. eTegrity was able to have a remote data restore by 10:00 am Friday morning. At 1:00 pm, they had a meeting with the insurance company to get money to purchase new equipment and rebuild the store. They had a backup plan in place and are in a much better place now because of it. These things could happen to anyone and without a disaster plan in place, you could be in a lot of trouble.
