IOR

The Inventory Order and Receipt module is an inventory management tool specifically designed to make maximum use of the electronic catalogs for True Value, Do it Best, and Orgill hardware stores in the ordering and receiving process. IOR assists in creating orders, communicating with centralized ordering, and receiving of ordered products. In this week's newsletter, we are going to discuss a few features of IOR.

Overview

No matter the vendor you use, the IOR menu is divided into three menus. These menus may have different option depending on the vendor you are using. The Screens menu offers the bulk of the activities performed in this module. The Reports menu will offer reporting for things done within IOR. The Utilities menu is basically the options/setup portion of IOR, including your member information, some maintenance options, and a bar code sheet for using a handheld scanner.

Generic Product Code File Maintenance

Within the Communications screen (IOR | Screens | Communications), you can check an option at the bottom right called "Product Code File (All UPCs)." This new options allows the member to receive and update any UPC updates the buyer may have changed. The POS Vendor needs the capability to add additional UPC codes to the file and list them as Alternate codes associated to the primary item number. This is a simple way to ensure your catalog is updated at all times with the newest UPC codes. This isn't the only download requests you can choose to download when communicating with the vendor (see WebHelp for more details).

Scheduler

In the Utilities menu, selecting Maintenance will offer an option to setup a Scheduler to automate certain procedures by selecting days and times for the procedures to be performed. The procedures are selected via check boxes as are the days of the week. The time to schedule these procedures is universal to all scheduled tasks and is set above the days of the week. Selecting Set Schedule will prompt you to enter the Windows user name and password from the current workstation so that the procedures can be scheduled properly.

Bar Code Sheet

Also within the Utilities menu, the Bar Code Sheet can be printed out to quicken the receiving process. On the bar code sheet, there are bar codes for various functions. These bar codes include the numbers 0-9, Change Quantity function, Clear Scan, and IBM Number. There is also a bar code for OK and Cancel to coincide with various screens in the Wireless TransActPOS. Having this sheet on hand and close to the handheld unit can make receiving much faster and easy to do.

IOR offers much more features than listed in this newsletter. For more information on additional features, click the WebHelp link on the left side of this newsletter search for "IOR."
