Update!
Welcome to the TransActPOS newsletter, your weekly source of helpful information about our software. Along the side of the newsletter, you may have noticed some links. These are to help you gain the most information about TransActPOS as possible.
Performing an update for your system is very simple, but it does require a little planning to complete.  The update process can be broken into two steps: 1) downloading the updated application and 2) the performing the update process.
1) Website Download

Note: This step may be done during normal business hours and does not affect the store's operation.

To access the update menu, click on the System button on the left side of the main menu and click on File Maintenance. Once here, you will see a menu option called "Update Menu." Clicking here will bring you to the update screen. Click Website Download to download the update from the website.  The time required to complete this step is based upon your internet connection speed.  "Normal" download time ranges from 5 to 15 minutes.

2) Perform Update

Note: This step requires all users to be out of the TransActPOS application for a period of 10 to 15 minutes.  This time can vary based upon network speed and amount of data.

Once the download is complete, the system will return you to the update menu. From here, click Perform Update. A series of prompts will appear. Read them carefully and be sure to follow instructions completely. Once you  select "Agree" to the License Agreement and install the update, you will see a confirmation of the update completing. Upon clicking the "OK" prompt, the system will exit the update utility.

Note: TransActPOS Updates are available to all customers that are have a current TransActPOS Maintenance Plan.

Update Features
The new update has many new features that you can read about once you have updated (in the What's New section on the About screen) or in our online help file by searching the version number (275 or 3.035). In this newsletter, we are going to address three features in the current update.

-New Inventory Maintenance
Once you are updated to the latest version, you may notice that the Inventory File screen has changed. The tabs on this screen have been rearranged and placed slightly lower than previously. Now, the item information you are viewing, such as item ID, description, stock information, and more is visible, even on other tabs! Some other portions have changed as well, such as being able to view the Sales History on the Sales tab and compare the current year or any other year to another year's history by going to the Sales tab, selecting the year to view, and selecting the Sales History button along the top to view a different year and compare the two. In the Lookup By tab, you can view the item pricing for the selling unit highlighted. This allows for a more streamlined and quicker look at the pricing on the separate lookup numbers.
-Fee Item
In the state of California, Oregon, Connecticut, and Rhode Island, there is a mandatory fee that is placed on every paint can sold. We have built a feature into the new update to help in making this process simple and easy. In the above image, you can see (on the General tab) a Fee Item area in the lower right. This is where you can assign a created item ID with the item type "Fee Item" to the existing inventory item. This way, every time this item is sold, the attached fee item will be sold along with it. For those stores that don't sell paint or live in a state without the stewardship program, this fee item could also be assigned to other various items. You may sell car batteries and want to assign a core charge to the item or sell pallets of items to customers and want to assign a pallet charge to the sale. With the new Fee Item feature, you can do this easily.

-Percent Off Coupons
The holiday season is upon us and stores have sales going on constantly. These could occur as promotions or in the form of coupons. Previously, TransActPOS could only handle coupons with a dollar amount off. With the new update, you can now assign a "Percent Off" matrix to a coupon to change the "$ off" field to a "% off" field. Once the inventory coupon item is set up properly, you can configure the coupon to offer a percent off of a purchase. This makes your coupon creation system much more versatile.

The highlighted features are just a few of the many great new features in the brand new update. You can learn all about the update by going to our WebHelp section and searching for the version number (275 or 3.035). This will take you to a page detailing all of the new features the update has to offer.
