Black Mamas Matter Toolkit Now Available!
In June 2015, the Center for Reproductive Rights and SisterSong Women of Color Reproductive Justice Collective hosted Black Mamas Matter, a cross-sector convening of leaders. Researchers, service providers, policy experts, and community organizers gathered to identify innovative strategies for improving maternal health outcomes for Black women. Black Mamas Matter reconvened in June 2016 in Atlanta to release this toolkit. This resource was inspired and informed by the insights shared at the 2015 convening, and in countless phone calls, meetings, and emails in between. It is a collaborative effort, and one that all partners hope to continue building upon!
The toolkit includes:
* Data and research on maternal health in the U.S. with a special focus on racial disparities.
* Personal stories about sexual, reproductive, and maternal health from Black women living in the South.
* An overview of policy recommendations. The policy brief is followed by a list of resources that advocates can consult for more information.
