Tim Ellis receives Honorary Doctorate of Science degree from University of Wollongong, Australia
Our former CEO of the Accelerator Centre received the honorary doctorate in recognition of his tremendous contribution to the innovation ecosystem in Wollongong, Australia.
The entire Accelerator Centre team was thrilled to hear about Tim's honour. Of course we were fortunate enough to experience firsthand the impact of Tim's knowledge, leadership and unwavering dedication to entrepreneurship and innovative communities.
We tracked down Tim and asked a few questions so we could share more about this significant occasion.
AC- How did you find out about this prestigious honour?
TE- Professor Paul Wellings, Vice Chancellor of University of Wollongong, informed me via personal letter. I was totally shocked to receive this honour. I had no previous knowledge this was in process.
AC- What does this degree mean to you personally?
TE- This is by far my most significant career accomplishment. The very fact that my contribution to the build out of Wollongong's Innovation ecosystem was valued enough to award me with this honorary degree says a great deal. It makes all the long hours and dedication to an industry worth while.
AC- How does this gesture speak to the successful relationship between the Accelerator Centre, and the University of Wollongong, who is starting an accelerator from the ground up?
TE- The relationship started with two academic leaders: UW's President at the time, David Johnston and University of Wollongong's Vice Chancellor at the time, Professor Gerard Sutton. The two met and agreed by way of MOU to work together in some form. That grew into what would become a strong partnership on many levels, starting with the Waterloo Accelerator Centre's guidance on the buildout of Wollongong's Innovation ecosystem and more specifically the adaptation of The Accelerator Program. This speaks to the quality of programming at the Accelerator Centre and also to it's diversity. This also represents a much greater partnership between Canada and Australia.
On behalf of the entire Accelerator Centre team, congratulations Tim on this prestigious achievement!

What if Your Vote Could Save a Life Today?
Accelerator Centre Client iNotForProfit wants to give one lucky charity a $75,000 digital makeover - and they need you to vote!
Everyday a child wonders where her next meal is coming from, or drops out of school in order to help support his family. Everyday a child is lost to hunger, contaminated water, poor sanitation, and more.
There are over 1.5 million charities alone in North America, all battling to save a life, to save the world. But, 99% of these charities, like many of these children, never get the resources they need to make the difference they want. They too are fighting for resources, fighting to shed light to their cause and bring education to young girls, provide clean water for families, to save lives and make a difference.
At iNotForProfit, we're running a $75,000 contest to change that for one deserving organization - to help them succeed in changing the world.
So, vote today to give a charity the tools they need to make an impact on the cause your care about. Vote today to make a mark on the future of your charity. Vote Today because your vote could change EVERYTHING.
Learn more about how your vote could change the future of a charity at: http://bit.ly/charitymakeover or check out our website to choose how you want to vote and read full contest details.
iNotForProfit, a social purpose business, and B Corp certified corporation, is dedicated to helping charitable organizations leverage technology to make a bigger impact.
