Is Your House Catching Cold?
|
Winter is naturally a time to shut the doors and windows against the icy, outdoor chill, and to turn on the heat. It is important during these cold, insular months to make sure your indoor air quality is at its peak. Improving the quality of the air at home can have a huge impact on staying healthy and comfortable throughout the winter. Most homeowners often are not aware of that, and are sick most of the winter months. Clean air relieves indoor allergies and may help ward off sickness, especially when hosting friends and family.
Most home owners don't notice their indoor air quality, which has five times the pollution of outdoor air. Signs of such problems typically include unusual and noticeable odors, stale or stuffy air, and noticeable lack of air movement. Homes also can be extra susceptible to higher levels of carbon monoxide if they have indoor wood and gas fireplaces which are not properly vented. These fireplaces should be checked and cleaned every year to make sure they are in proper working condition for safety.
Controlling humidity is another area in which, as an home inspector, we can provide expert guidance. Lack of or too much humidity, heat loss for ductwork, and poor insulation are just a few problems I am able to detect with the use of the Infrared Camera to see into the walls.

Quick Market Update

Wynn Englisbe, my long time friend and mentor, has retired and moved to South Carolina as of January 31, 2014. I have taken over Wynn's inspection business, as we were associates these last 10 years.
I have also brought on Keith Enos to be my associate and to maintain the high level of professionalism Wynn set before us. Wynn will be missed on a personal and business level.
