Greetings!

Me

If you've ever traveled to Jamaica, you've probably tried the local rum punch (pink color). If you haven't you're missing out!

My mother was born in NY City of Jamaican parents. I lived on the island for several years growing up, and visit often. I cook Jamaican food regularly, as well as Jamaican rum punch. Whenever there's a family gathering or party, it's understood that I'll be bringing the punch.

The rum punch recipe below is extremely easy to make, and goes very well with a designated driver.

It MUST have Jamaican (Wray & Nephew) White Overproof Rum to be Jamaican Rum Punch. No substitutes. The longer the punch sits, the better it tastes as all the flavors come together. You may want to make it 2-3 days in advance of your soiree if you have time. If not, then chill for at least one hour.

The rule of thumb for a strong Jamaican Rum Punch is to use your ingredients in these proportions:

1 of bitter
2 of sweet
3 of strong
4 of weak

Personally, I find that "3 of strong" is enough to wake the dead, but maybe it's just me. I've modified my rum punch recipe a little so it's not too strong, and I've had no complaints so far.

Hope you enjoy. Don't drink it too fast as it will creep up on you.  Welcome to Jamaica!

Best,

Jamaican Rum Punch Recipe

Jamaican Rum Punch

I Cup Lemon Juice (sour)
¼ Cup Grenadine Cherry Syrup (sweet - see photo below)
1½ Cups Jamaican (Wray & Nephew) White Overproof Rum (strong)
1 Cup Coconut Rum (strong) - Cruzan or Malibu is fine
2 Cups Pineapple Juice (weak)
2 Cups Orange Juice (weak)

Mix together all ingredients, shake well and pour in a container(s)/bottle(s). Chill at least 1 hour or more before serving.

The longer it sits the better it gets. Shake well before serving. Pour over lots of ice in a short glass. Enjoy!

Tip:   If you can't find the cherry syrup at a local Caribbean store try your local supermarket. It's also called grenadine syrup (red).  You can find the brand below by clicking here.
