Strategic Plan Adopted

The Davie County Board of Education adopted the 2013-2017 Strategic Plan at their meeting on February 5, 2013. We want to thank all of the Strategic Planning Commission Members for providing valuable insight that will shape the future of our public school system. The ideas and conversations during our planning sessions provided a foundation for this plan that will guide our district in a positive direction. Our principals and administrators have spent many hours developing goals, strategies, and measures to address the strategic priorities developed by the commission. Our staff is already acting on the strategies outlined in this plan.  Click here to download a full version of the plan.

Strategic Plan

In January, we revealed the new logo for Davie County Schools. A subcommittee worked to select a new logo that would reflect the vision of the strategic plan. You will see this new logo on all future communications from Davie County Schools. We believe the subcommittee did an outstanding job selecting "innovate, achieve, and excel" as appropriate words to describe our schools as we pursue excellence and strive to be that national model outlined in our vision. Please share this plan, as well as the successes and challenges of your public schools, with your friends and neighbors across our great community.

New High School Plan Presentation on Tuesday

The Davie County Board of Education will hold a special called meeting/work session on Tuesday, February 19, at 6:00 PM, at the Senior Center, 278 Meroney St, Mocksville, NC. The Senior Center is next to the hospital in Mocksville. The work session is open to the public. Architects with Walter Robbs Callahan & Pierce Architects, PA (WRCP) will present a schematic design and cost estimates for one new high school in Davie County. Options will also be presented for how the existing high school campus can be repurposed for administrative and recreational purposes in the future, once a new school is constructed.

Background on planning for one new high school:

In November 2012, the Board of Education selected WRCP to review, revise, and update a design for one new Davie County High School. WRCP has been working on a schematic design to include capacity for all students currently attending Davie County High School - a minimum of 1800 students and a minimum core capacity of 2000. The firm is also including space for all educational program areas in a 21st Century high school - including academics, arts, career and technical education, as well as athletic facilities, including a stadium. In addition, the firm is working with district staff and has solicited input from a committee of community members to develop a repurposing plan for the existing Davie County High School campus that will meet needs of both the school district and community.

There have been numerous meetings with teachers, students, and staff in December and January to gather input into the design and program needs. There have been site visits to three high schools in Forsyth County and one new high school in Mint Hill, NC. Click here to see photos from those site visits.

In December, there was a meeting with 25 community members who provided ideas of how the existing high school campus could be repurposed once a new school is constructed. Numerous ideas were generated and WRCP is developing options to consider based on the recommendations of the committee and staff. Options being considered may include the use of the current media center building for administrative purposes and the rest of the campus for designated community recreational use. Recreation use would utilize the existing gymnasiums and stadium with the addition of athletic fields and other recreation venues to boost economic development. A new school design and repurposing of the existing campus will be presented in February.
