Now Is The Time To
Love Your Skin....

Not only is it the season for fresh starts and resolutions but a good time to address your skincare concerns and revamp your routine. Have you been slathering on the same products year after year with little to no results? Stop wasting time and money on the products that over promise and under deliver. It may be time to change things up and get some professional help.

Our knowledgeable aestheticians are here to develop a personalized skincare routine that is right for you. Here are some top skincare tips recommended by all skincare professionals at Thompson Facial Plastics to help you revamp your beauty routine and get you the skin you've always wanted.

1) Determine Your Main Concerns

Minimal issues can likely be addressed with skincare alone while headier concerns will likely need a combination of in-office treatments on top of a good at-home regimen.

2) Establish A Routine That Fits Your Lifestyle

Life is busy and a full 10 step skincare routine may be too overwhelming. We're here to help you with the basics you need as well as any additional products or procedures that will fit within your lifestyle.

3) Spend Wisely

Be wary of high priced products that don't come from a physician's office and are sold by those with no background in skincare.

Medical procedures will typically offer the best bang for you buck. After that, products with a certain chemical component that stays on your face for a long period of time should be your next biggest expense.

4) Embrace Change

What worked in your twenties will likely not work the same in your forties. Hormones, climate changes, and aging in general can change your skin dramatically. Technology has also advanced significantly through the years so it's important to be open-minded to new treatments and products on the market.

For a comprehensive treatment plan combining both in-office and at-home care, consider our 5 month skin rejuvenation program.

Cosmetic surgery in general has shown a drastic increase with a record of 11 million procedures performed in 2013 according to the most recent statistics from The American Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery (ASAPS). Men had more than 1 million cosmetic procedures which was 9.4% of the total. This may not seem like a lot in comparison to the total but the increase is over 273% from 1997.

As a leading facial plastic surgeon in Utah, Dr. Scott Thompson reports the number of men and women coming in for rhinoplasty surgery has been essentially the same. For facial rejuvenation procedures such as facelifts, female patients have always far outnumbered their male counterparts. Interestingly, he notes that the trend seems to be shifting as he continues to see more men for both facial rejuvenating surgical procedures as well as less invasive injectables and other office based procedures.

"This is an exciting trend to me as facial aging in men often results in a tired, aged, or angry appearance in men just as it does in women. And with the advances of our understanding of health and medicine, our population is staying healthy longer, living longer, and staying in the workforce longer. With these trends it is perhaps even more important that we pay attention to the initial impression that our appearance reflects."

We've compiled some of the most frequently asked questions regarding lip injections just in time for the holiday of love.

"Are lip Injections For Women of a Certain Age?"

The answer is no. Women in their 40's, 50's and 60's are more likely to seek lip augmentation to restore lost volume in the lips while younger patients in their 20's and 30's look to augment genetically thin lips or just to plump normal size lips for a more luscious look and feel.

"What Options Are Available For Lip Injections?"

We carry dermal fillers made of hyaluronic acid, naturally found in the skin, that work well to augment the lips. The one Dr. Thompson typically prefers to use is Juvederm. He has found that this product provides a natural look and soft feel post injection. Other popular dermal fillers for the lips include Restylane and Belotero.

Fat can be grafted from other areas of the body and put into the lips for a more permanent solution. Fat can also be added to wrinkles in the face at the same time providing all over facial rejuvenation which if often done in conjunction with facelift surgery. This option is more invasive but offers beautiful results as well.

"How Much Do Lip Injections Cost?"

Depending on the dermal filler used, the cost will range from $500-$550. Dr. Thompson likes to start with a conservative amount of filler for patients receiving lip injections for the first time. That way they can let the swelling go down and see test out the fullness to see how they like it. There's also less chance others will notice as the size is increased overtime. Patients can then come in for another quick appointment, free of charge, to add more filler from the syringe they've already purchased.

Renee Zellweger Part 2? Uma Therman Plastic Surgery Rumors...

Uma Therman made major headlines when she stepped out on the red carpet this week looking drastically different this week. Plastic surgery rumors went rampit and continue today.

People were quick to point out that her hair was much sleeker than usual and her skin also appeared to be much smoother. It's clear she is wearing lighter mascara, if any at all, and has toned down the color of her eyebrows as well. But is that the only difference?

Uma Therman Responds to Facial Plastic Surgery Rumors

Uma Therman appeared on the Today Show yesterday morning to discuss the facial plastic surgery rumors that caught fire following her appearance on the red carpet last weekend. The "Kill Bill" star looked like her familiar self on the program and attributed her drastic look at the NBC's The Slap event to nothing more than a change in makeup.

"I guess nobody liked my makeup," Thurman told Savannah Guthrie. "I mean, I've been doing this for years and years and years, and people say things nice and they say things mean." She later added, "It's just like whatever."

The Secret Life of This Facial Plastic Surgeon

Before you start thinking Dr. Thompson has some kind of double life based on the title of this post, let me explain. I recently read an article titled "The Secret Lives of Doctors" and so many of the confessions made by the author, who is an opthalmologist, fit our favorite facial plastic surgeon to a tee. I can attest to the truthfulness of these claims as I've worked for Utah Facial Plastics for a number of years.

Due to such shows as Dr. 90210 and Nip/Tuck, the public often conjures a life of glory, money, and luxury when they think about a 'plastic surgeon'. The persona of a typical plastic surgeon in the media is a slick, arrogant doctor that is highly demanding. The reality we all experience with Dr. Thompson couldn't be further from this misconception. First time patients often find his down-to-earth bedside manner so refreshing and all patients appreciate his genuine care and concern for their well-being.

To give you an idea of what this facial plastic surgeon, as well as many other physicians experience day in and day out, here's what medicine often looks like from where the doctors stands as similarly described in this post from

Dr. Thompson often cancels root canals and oil changes and skips children's soccer games when he knows his patients need them.

Dr. Thompson often changes his vacation schedules when patients schedule elective procedures several weeks down the road, so as not to inconvenience the patients.

Dr. Thompson motors through clinic, surgery, and hospital visits with a full bladder, an empty tummy, and dry mouth to make sure he's on schedule and keeping up with the days demands.

The Top 3 Non-Surgical Anti-Aging Treatments with Proven Results

Many treatments and procedures on the market today sound to good to be true, and many of them are. To help with the confusion and prevent consumers from wasting their hard-earned money, we've listed the top 3 non-surgical anti-aging treatments that offer proven results. As Utah's Leader in Facial Rejuvenation, Dr. Thompson has been offering all top anti-aging treatments to patients for over 10 years.

Botox is the number one cosmetic procedure in the world, for men and women, and has held that title for a number of years. It's no wonder as treatment is quick, easy and there's no down-time involved. And of's incredibly effective. This anti-aging treatment works by allowing the facial muscles to relax which results in the disappearance of wrinkles, lines and even deep furrows, such as crow's feet and frown lines. Recent studies are also beginning to show the influence Botox Cosmetic has on the emotional state of patients with an increase in overall happiness following treatment.

Full Facelift Versus In-Office MACS Facelift

Dr. Thompson sees numerous patients daily who desire a facelift procedure to restore their neck and jaw line for a more youthful appearance.

Overtime, the skin loses elasticity while both the skin and underlying muscles begin to sag as shown in the diagram to the left. Facelift surgery should not only lift and tighten the skin but the underlying muscle layer as well. Otherwise, long lasting results are unlikely.

Depending on ones facial anatomy, neck and jowl laxity, as well as their personal goals for outcome, Dr. Thompson may recommend his full facelift procedure or in-office MACS facelift.

Both facelift procedures are highly popular due to the natural results Dr. Thompson is able to produce with both methods. So what is the difference?

Botox For Men: The 'Wallstreet Wrinkle'

We all know how different men and women can be in a lot ways and it's no different when it comes to Botox. While women strive to be as wrinkle-free as possibly, men do not. Most men want to maintain a certain amount of wrinkles to keep their rugged edge but do desire a more youthful, rested result from botox and other cosmetic injectibles.

This look with Botox for men has been dubbed by a New York City plastic surgeon, Dr. Rowe, as the "Wall Street Wrinkle". The name, he said, comes from the high percentage of male patients who work in finance. "They really want to avoid looking overdone."

He goes on to say that many of his male patients feel that a certain amount of wrinkles are somewhat of a "badge of honor" that they want to maintain. Men fear too much botox will be obvious to others and make them appear irresponsible.

Lower Eyelid Surgery with Fat Repositioning

The lower eyelids are one of the first areas of the face to start showing signs of aging. The eyelid skin is extremely thin and fragile making it more susceptible to genetics, gravity, and sun damage. Overtime, signs of aging result in hollowing under the eyes and often bulging bags of fat. The cheeks also descend during the aging process which exposes the bony rim of the eyes adding to hollowing that often leaves many looker much older than they actually are.

Traditional lower eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) typically involves the removal of fat and/or excess skin in the under-eye area. For many patients, Dr. Thompson recommends fat repositioning as well for full under-eye rejuvenation.

Fat repositioning is not so much a distinct operation as it is a different method of handling the bulging fat under the eye. During surgery, Dr. Thompson surgically distributes a layer of fat over the rim of the orbital bone and advances it into areas depression or hollowing. By doing so, deep troughs and puffiness are addressed for a well-rested, rejuvenated appearance with no visible scarring.
