The only thing worse than acne itself is the scarring that can occur from long-term, severe bouts of acne. Dr. Thompson sees patients for many facial skin concerns, especially acne scars that often leave patients feeling very self-conscious about their appearance.

Popular treatment options have typically included skin resurfacing treatments, such as fractional CO2 laser treatments, and/or dermal fillers to fill in the tiny holes created in the skin by acne. Restylane is a dermal filler that is commonly used to treat ance scarring and is made of hyaluronic acid, a substance naturally found in the skin.

The latest acne scar treatment, Bellafill, is also a dermal filler but is not made of hyaluronic acid. Bellafill is made up of collagen and polymethylmethacrylate (PMMA) microspheres that when injected, add volume to wrinkles andcreate a matrix that supports collagen production in your skin for lasting improvement. While hyaluronic acid dermal fillers also fill wrinkles and add lost volume to the face, the microspheres set Bellafill apart as they continue working long after the initial treatment.

Bellafill received Drug Administration approval last week for the treatment of acne scarring. By injecting Bellafill underneath the scars, the microspheres go to work pushing them out, making the skin smoother.

Patients and plastic surgeons alike are very excited as this is the first FDA product for acne filling and is another great option to add for those suffering from acne scarring. To learn more about this product, visit our Bellafill page.

Plastic Surgery Patients' Favorite Celebrity Features

When it comes to fashion and the latest hairstyles, many often look to hollywood for inspiration. So it's not all that surprising that many patients considering plastic surgery find examples of celebrity features they would like to emulate. But unlike hair, plastic surgery is more permanent and each individual is very unique so cookie cutter examples are not typically good to strive for.

For facial plastic surgery, it's certainly best to consult with a facial plastic surgeon ho will be able to discuss you goals and concerns with you and after taking photos and examining your face, together you can determine the right plan for you and even have your after results imaged ahead of time so you are both on the same page with the outcome you desire.

That being said, many patients do request similar features to many celebrities and a new survey reveals that the most desired plastic surgery looks by women seeking plastic surgery.

For patients seeking rhinoplasty surgery, common requests were for Megan Fox's and DJ Lauren Pope's nose. But the most requested nose was that of Kim Kardashian (see woman who spent $30,000 to look like Kim above). Kim also holds the title for the most coveted rump, with many patients seeking a butt lift to replicate her hour glass figure. READ MORE

5 Top Ways To Spot Bad Plastic Surgery

We've all seen bad plastic surgery, especially from celebs who've become a bit too friendly with the scalpel. When a person suddenly steps out as an almost completely different human, or not even human looking at all, it's pretty much a dead giveaway. How does this happen and how can you tell what was done? We've got the top 5 ways to spot plastic surgery and become and expert in where the doctor or injector went wrong.

And how do you spot good plastic surgery? You don't. Because good plastic surgery is not obvious to others but does improve one's appearance. Patients of Thompson Facial Plastics typically get compliments from others on how refreshed and rejuvenated they look though the person is unsure of what has changed.

Think about celebrities that aren't in the news for botched or bad plastic surgery but look amazing. What do they always attribute their looks to? You got it, diet and exercise. If a surgeon has done his job right, no one should know you had a facelift

r eyelid lift. The same goes for fillers and botox. The goal of facial rejuvenation is to improve, restore and rejuvenate, not to change a persons looks.

So here are the top 5 ways to spot bad plastic surgery, as if it wasn't easy enough. In general, overdoing it is the giveaway but here are more specifics.  READ MORE

Update From Guatemala!

Dr. Thompson has been hard at work all week in Guatemala reconstructing ears for kids born without one or both ears due to a congenital condition called microtia.

The small bunched up tissue in the front of the ear was all that was there when this young boy was born. Dr. Thompson constructed an ear from rib cartilage for him a few days ago.

The MMFC (Medical Missions for Children) team has been working together for over 10 years donating their time and talent to improving the lives of children all over the world. Dr. Thompson enjoys being part of the team and looks forward to two more medical missions coming up this spring.
