Multi-state consortium to spark translational medicine collaborations
A new multi-state consortium has launched to spark translational medicine collaborations across academic research centers (incl. Ohio State) and the biopharmaceutical industry.
The program, called the Strategic Pharma-Academic Research Consortium for Translational Medicine (SPARC) includes inaugural members made up of four academic medical centers supported by the NIH Clinical and Translational Science Awards, as well as two major pharmaceutical companies, Eli Lilly and Co. and Takeda Pharmaceuticals International Inc.

Moms2B program helps new and expectant moms get children off on the right foot
Pat Gabbe, MD, started the Moms2B program to help women at high risk for infant mortality learn tools that will enable them to make more healthful choices and deliver healthy, full-term infants.
The initial funding came from an Ohio State grant for a research project, titled "The OSU International Poverty Collaborative," which was supported by the CCTS Clinical Research Center. | Read more

2014 Davis Bremer awardees announced
The CCTS and OSU College of Medicine presented three distinguished scientists with the 2014 Richard P. and Marie R. Bremer Medical Research Fund and William H. Davis Endowment for Basic Medical Research pilot awards.

2014 L-Pilot awardees announced
The CCTS has awarded 12 innovative, interdisciplinary research teams with pilot grants through the new Longitudinal mechanism (L-Pilot) program.
The L-Pilot program aims to incentivize long-term development of promising projects toward major success stories (i.e., extramural programmatic funding, commercialization). Teams were selected based on their potential to transform health care or translational science through innovative, patient-based clinical and translational research. | Read more

The Appalachian Translational Research Network (ATRN) has launched a brand new website providing information about news, resources and services offered by its six institutional partners.

Laureen Smith, PhD, RN, and Christopher Holloman, PhD, conducted a school-based intervention study through the ATRN to impact sugar-sweetened beverage consumption in rural Appalachian high schools . | Read more

CCTS KL2 Scholar Receives Engagement Impact Grant
CCTS KL2 scholar Alison Norris, MD, PhD, just received an Engagement Impact Grant from the OSU Office of Outreach and Engagement. The project parallels her KL2 project research focused on reproductive health in Africans. Through qualitative research, Norris will assess barriers to reproductive healthcare utilization among Somali women in Columbus to develop evidence-based, culturally-acceptable interventions to improve care. | Read more
