In light of the ongoing transformation of downtown Jamaica, the Jamaica Center Business Improvement District (BID) is proud to announce that this past Monday, the BID's Executive Director, Laurel Brown, was presented the BID Leadership Award by Mayor Michael Bloomberg, Deputy Mayor of Economic Development Robert Steel, and Dept. of Small Business Services Commissioner Robert Walsh at Neighborhood Achievement Awards held at Gracie Mansion.

The BID Leadership Award honors individuals who have gone above and beyond to revitalize their community and provide mentorship, guidance, and leadership to others in NYC.  Laurel shared this recognition with two other esteemed BID Directors, Fred Cerullo of the Grand Central Partnership and Gayle Barron of the Long Island City Partnership.

Under Laurel's leadership the Jamaica Center BID has doubled up its efforts to revitalize downtown by focusing on high impact programs - changing the misperceptions of downtown Jamaica through unique programming and community collaborations;  recruiting new business investments through a new retail attraction program; launching a marquee fashion show to showcase the district's inimitable sense of style; and commanding the world take notice of this "hip and historic" NYC neighborhood through a strategic marketing campaign.

You can read the BID's most recent annual report for more information on past, present, and future projects.
