Tune-In to Shelterhouse on MCTV

null

Be sure to tune-in to MCTV or on-line for the Shelterhouse series that we've been busy creating to inform and educate the community.

We are working on a three part mini-series for Domestic Violence Awareness Month in October.

Please click here to see the MCTV schedule. Once you're on the site search for "Shelterhouse" in the search box to narrow the number of shows.  If a show has "view" after it you can even watch it on-line.

Thank you Midland 100 Club!

The members of the Midland 100 Club recently brought items to donate to the soon-to-be Resale Shop at their September meeting. Below are photos of the Shelterhouse staff and board members filling up a trailer with "treasures."

Help make this dream a reality! Shelterhouse is opening a Resale Shop in Midland and we need your help to open the doors.

The Resale Shop will  ensure a steady revenue stream to support the growing need

for Shelterhouse's services. In June of this year, the Shelterhouse board embarked on a silent fundraising campaign for the Resale Shop.

Can you help close the gap?

Louise "Coach Weezy" Bergman
Volunteer Spotlight
Louise "Coach Weezy" Bergman

According to Girls on the Run Council Director Sara Jacobs-Carter, Coach Louise Bergman was a season-saver this summer. Coach Louise spent hours conducting inventory of all the leftovers from previous seasons, and organizing what we need for the upcoming season.  She coped beautifully with a general lack of storage/office space, and stuffed 250+ envelopes with game pieces, bingo cards, certificates, lap counters, and scrap paper.  She also spearheaded the Coach Bin Assembly Day and kept the other volunteers organized and moving so quickly that the bins were stuffed in half the scheduled time. Coach Louise is getting ready to lead her third team of very lucky Girls on the Run!

Coach Weezy with her longtime running buddy/husband Roger Bergman

In her own words...

I started as an Assistant Coach last fall because I knew I could run, and

thought I could give some time to the GOTR program. I introduced myself to our team as Coach Weezy, sharing that having asthma since I was a young girl is part of who I am, but that it hasn't stopped me from running!

Then I got to work with loving, iron-willed Coach Sue Williams, now a Shelterhouse employee; got to know some great young girls and their parents; and observed our fantastic Council Director, Sara JC in action! How could I not want to be a Coach in the spring, and now for the upcoming fall season!? I'm blessed to be a part of all this -- welcomed as "Coach Weezy" in the neighborhood of Plymouth Elementary School!

It's an awesome opportunity to share healthy-whole-life skills with eager young girls becoming strong, lovely young women! As one of our favorite cheers goes, "Girls on the Run is so much fun!"

Leadership Midland Class of 2012
are Raising a Barn for Shelterhouse

Thank you to the Leadership Midland's class of 2012 (pictured above) for choosing Shelterhouse as your class project. The Golf Outing on August 23 that you coordinated was a great success and a lot of fun. We truly appreciate your efforts and just wanted to say how glad we are to be working with you.
