Star Luncheon
This past January it was impossible to pick a Star Employee for the month - so many Shelterhouse staff members went above and beyond during the holiday season. So instead of honoring one Star Employee, we had a Star Luncheon for the entire staff. On the menu: chicken and stars soup, star sandwiches, star cookies and star fruit salad.
Thank you to our wonderful staff for your high-energy dedication all the year through. You deserve to be celebrated!

One Billion Rising... at The Tridge!
One Billion Rising is a global movement to raise awareness about violence against women and girls. ONE BILLION RISING began as a call to action based on the staggering statistic that 1 in 3 women on the planet will be beaten or raped during her lifetime. With the world population at 7 billion, this adds up to more than ONE BILLION WOMEN AND GIRLS. You can be part of the one billion rising by coming to The Tridge in Midland from 5:30 - 6:30 p.m. on February 14. To read the full press release, please click here.
Learn the dance moves on Saturday, February 9th at The Yoga Place, 139 E. Main Street or on-line here. Don't worry too much about learning the dance; just show up with an enthusiastic spirit to join with others against violence against women and girls.

Dedicated Volunteers Provide On-Going Maintenance for Shelterhouse.
There are have several regular volunteers who help with maintenance related things at Shelterhouse.
Isiah Stone was a work study thru Delta College. When the work study ran out, he began to volunteer because he loves Shelterhouse and now works two or three days a week.
Carol Meier began volunteering one day a week to help with maintenance. Her work has grown to two or three and sometimes more days a week. Now she faithfully takes care of the Green Room, our main store room for clothing, diapers and toys. She sorts and organizes donations.
Diane Stone also began as a one day a week volunteer. She usually is here at least two days a week and sometimes more. She now takes care of the food room, sorting and organizing food donations.
There are also two men who volunteer almost every Saturday for two to four hours each. Pat Smith has done so for about a year. He has had some health issues and missed a few months, but is expecting to return this spring. Kevin Schroder has been coming in Saturdays beginning about the first of January and is helping a lot.
Each and all of these volunteers make a tremendous difference at ShelterHouse. THANK YOU, VOLUNTEERS! We couldn't do it without you. You are deeply appreciated!
