Would you be interested in adopting a Shelterhouse family for Christmas?

Now is the time to sign up so that presents can be bought and  distributed to families in time to be under the tree on Christmas morning.
"Last year a group of my friends pooled our resources and together adopted a large family -one that I wouldn't have been able to adopt on my own. It was neat to do  something rewarding with my friends. I thought about the family we adopted on Christmas morning as I looked at the presents under our tree and silently wished them happiness and hope in the coming year."
-2012 Adopt a Family Donor

Please contact Kim Bruce at 835-6771 to participate. This program is truly unique. The gift dollar amount is capped so that giving stays uniform across our client list. A list of suggested items are given to each person who adopts a family to help in shopping.

Be sure to cheer the Girls on the Run teams as they run/walk before the Santa Parade route just before the parade on Saturday, November 17 in Midland.

You could be a running buddy (all levels of skill needed), a t-shirt table host, or even a volunteer at the Happy Hair Station. Please give Sara Jacobs -Carter a call at 835-6771 to find out more about this great program and volunteer options.
Way to go Guys!
Since we last wrote to you more men took a stand for a grand total of 165 in the 100 Men or More Campaign.

Plus the 50 Men  Campaign in Gladwin was a resounding success with 90 men  joining together to take a stand against domestic violence. We are proud to be working in such a supportive community.

One More Room to Renovate
You can be a part of creating a safe place filled with hope for another...

Last but certainly not least in our renovation process is the final bathroom. If you belong to a group or company that is looking for a rewarding project, we have the answer. Approximately $5000 needs to be raised to revamp the old upstairs bathroom. As you can see by the photo below, staying at Shelterhouse means more than you can ever know to those in need.

"Have hope you're safe now" was found written on a board in a bedroom during the Shelterhouse 2012 Renovation project.

Please take a moment to hear more about the finding of this board as well as moments from the October Survivor's Speak by watching a video of the evening. Just click here and then scroll down about 90% of the list to "Shelderhouse.wmv" to view it.
Shelterhouse - Great Gladwin News
There is a lot of great news to share from Shelterhouse-Gladwin. First, The 50 Men Campaign in Gladwin was exceeded with 90 men taking a stand to end domestic violence and sexual assault! Way to go Men of Gladwin!

The Gladwin Lunafest during Domestic Violence Awareness month was truly inspiring as films by, for, and about women were watched together and then time afterward was taken to share thoughts and feelings about each clip.

The Caring Hearts Support Group is up and going for another year of women helping women. This special support group meets weekly on Thursday evenings.

We are also very proud that Maureen Barney -McGuire, the courthouse liaison for Shelterhouse-Gladwin, has been chosen to be part of the national Advocacy Learning Center's program. Shelterhouse is one of only 18 agencies invited to this program. Robin Greiner and Kim Bruce from Shelterhouse -Midland will also be attending. Please read the full press release about this honor by clicking here.

Great things are happening at Shelterhouse-Gladwin!

Shelterhouse Staff Celebrate Milestone Anniversaries
We'd like to take a moment to say congratulations and thank you to the following staff members who have recently celebrated milestone anniversaries at Shelterhouse.
  • Kim Bruce, 10 years

These milestone anniversaries are a testament to the great work going on at Shelterhouse. We thank Kim, Claudette, Sara, and Sarah for their dedicated service and their ability to give to others through the years. We would also like to recognize the supportive  community in which Shelterhouse resides which makes it possible to have an environment which not only nourishes and supports clients but staff as well.

Happy Birthday Girl Scouts!
In October the Girls Scouts celebrated 100 years with a large celebration that brought more than 800 Girl Scouts from around the state to Midland. During all of the festivities, Midland Girl Scout Troop 1060 took the time to gather and donate birthday supplies to Shelterhouse.

As you can see in the photo above, not only were we excited to have them drop by with their gift, so was TV25. It was certainly a fun time and we look forward to the smiles their donation is sure to bring to our clients.
