If it tastes like chicken, then it must be chicken, right? If you're talking about pet food, the answer is yes!
Most of us think only the gross parts of the chicken are used in pet food, but that isn't true. Not to get too graphic, but guts, feathers, heads and feet are NEVER included.
Although some pet foods are labeled as using only "USDA grade" chicken, (and there are some that do!), legally they cannot say that. The government wants to make the distinction between human food and pet food.
When pet food companies find a way to legally and verifiably prove they use USDA grade meat, consumers will then be able to know that they are truly getting what they pay for.
There are lots of great sources for information on pet food. One we like is "The Whole Dog Journal." Back issues are available at www.whole-dog-journal.com. |

Staff and volunteers turn out in force every year for the St. Patrick's Day Parade. It's a chance to let our hair down, green though it may be! Leroy, the three-legged dog that our supporters helped save, came to the parade too! (top right)
