| Manitoba Takes the Lead - October is Proclaimed Disability Employment Awareness Month!
|
On October 18, 2012, the Province of Manitoba proclaimed that every October will officially be Disability Employment Awareness Month in our province. Honourable Stan Struthers, Minister of Finance, announced the proclamation which was jointly signed by himself, The Honourable Peter Bjornson, Minister of Entrepreneurship, Training & Trade, and The Honourable Jennifer Howard, Minister of Family Services and Labour.
Disability Employment Awareness Month has been celebrated in the United States for over sixty years and is an annual focal point for increasing the employment of people with disabilities. Efforts are currently underway to have Canada proclaim each October as National Disability Employment Awareness Month. Manitoba has taken the lead! With this announcement, Manitoba became the first Province to make such a proclamation. Hopefully other provinces will follow our lead in the near future.

While they are holding a number of consultations, they are also collecting input through this online survey.
