Tri-C's 50th Anniversary Celebrated September 23 at Tower City Center

To commemorate the official 50th Anniversary of the start of classes at Cuyahoga Community College, Tri-C hosted a celebration at Tower City Center with activities scheduled throughout the day September 23 at Tower City Center's Skylight Concourse by the fountain.

Commemorative photo books celebrating Cuyahoga Community College's first 50 years available for purchase
This newly-released 100 page book features never before seen photos of Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) from day one to the present.
It is a virtual walk through the past 50 years of Tri-C - from the more than 3,000 people who lined up to register in 1963; to the opening of the most recent facility, the Advanced Technology Training Center on the Metropolitan Campus.

Tri-C's Fall 2013 Semester Begins
16 week classes began Aug. 26
14 week classes began Sept. 9
8 week classes will begin Oct. 21

Tri-C's 16-week Fall Semester began August 26 and 14-week classes began Sept. 9. But, there is still time for students to enroll this Fall. Eight week classes will begin Oct. 21.
Tri-C offers staggered start dates each semester to allow students who want to enroll after the beginning of the semester the opportunity to do so more quickly than waiting until the start of the next semester.

Senior Adult Education Classes Begin September 20
For over 35 years, the Center for Aging Initiatives at Cuyahoga Community College has been a premier provider of senior adult education opportunities for individuals over age 55.
Based on the concept of providing senior adult education programs within an academic environment, the program holds to an education standard that recognizes the intellectual interests of older students. To provide learning opportunities, Tri-C offers a unique approach to senior adult education with on and off campus experiences.

Tri-C Announces Third Graduation Class of Cleveland Small Business Owners from Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses Applications Due Nov. 4, 2013 for the program beginning Feb. 2014
August 23, Cuyahoga Community College hosted the graduation of 38 Cleveland-area small business owners from the Goldman Sachs 10,000 Small Businesses program.
Tri-C President Alex Johnson offered brief remarks, and Tim McCarthy of The Business of Good Foundation gave the keynote address. Two graduates nominated by their peers shared their stories: Mitch Zlotnik, president of Audimute Soundproofing, and Christian Weekley-Baker, general manager of Weekley's Mailing Service Inc.
The business owners who graduated represented a wide variety of industries and businesses including manufacturing, catering, marketing and IT services. Read more... |
Nursing Accreditation Status Update
Cuyahoga Community College announced August 9 that it has reached an agreement with the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing, Inc. ("ACEN") regarding the status of its Associate Degree Nursing Program accreditation.

Cuyahoga Community College receives National Science Foundation Grant for youth
Cuyahoga Community College Foundation has secured a new $1.1 million grant award for Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) from the National Science Foundation for the Youth Technology Academy: STEM Academy for youth featuring Youth Essential Skills, also called SAY-YES!
Alex Johnson, president of Cuyahoga Community College, said, "We are pleased to partner with the Cleveland Metropolitan School District for this innovative project, which is designed to enable high school students to successfully pursue post-secondary STEM studies when they arrive in college, rather than enrolling in remedial coursework. We are grateful to the National Science Foundation for its support of this important work." Read more... |
Tri-C honors community members serving on Program Advisory Committees
Respiratory Care Committee selected as "2013 Outstanding Advisory Committee"
Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) announced June 19 that the Respiratory Care Advisory Committee was selected 2013's "Outstanding Advisory Committee" at the 21st Annual Advisory Committees Appreciation Breakfast. The Respiratory Care Advisory Committee includes representatives of employer/clinical sites, alumni who are working in the field, a current student representative, a member from the American Lung Association, and two Cuyahoga Community College staff members.
More than 660 community members serve on more than 50 Tri-C Program Advisory Committees, generously sharing their expertise with program managers and academic leaders to help Tri-C graduates enter the workforce with an education that is up-to-date in thir fields. Each year, Tri-C honors these individuals for their service and selects an "Outstanding Advisory Committee" that has gone above and beyond in support of their program. Read more... |
Tri-C's Corporate College announces exclusive partnership with Plexus International to offer ISO Training
Corporate College, a division of Cuyahoga Community College, announced a partnership with Plexus International July 22. This partnership will ensure that International Organization for Standardization (ISO) courses use up-to-date, internationally recognized curriculum and are taught by Plexus International certified instructors. ISO provides state-of-the-art specifications for products, services and good practice, helping to make industry more efficient and effective. Developed through global consensus, ISO helps break down barriers to trade.

Tri-C's Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) Earns National Distinction
Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C®) was the first community college in the nation to launch a Massive Open Online Course (MOOC) -free online classes to help high school students pass developmental math, also known as remedial math, before they enter college.
Tri-C recently learned that its MOOC is the first in the nation to earn Quality MattersTM recognition through QM's Continuing & Professional Education Program. Quality Matters, a leader in quality assurance for online course design, uses a peer-based approach for continuous improvement in online education and student learning. Read more... |

July 30, Ohio Board of Regents Chancellor John Carey and Vice Chancellor Gary Cates visited Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) to meet Tri-C President Alex Johnson and to tour Tri-C's Advanced Technology Training Center (ATTC).
The ATTC links workforce education to the latest technology. People in workforce training programs get hands-on experience in welding simulation and robotics labs; and participate in programs including energy, construction, information technology and advanced manufacturing.
The ATTC opened in October 2012. Located near Tri-C's Unified Technologies Center (UTC) on the Metropolitan Campus, together the UTC and ATTC make up the largest technology training complex in Ohio. Learn more about the ATTC... |

August 14, Congressman Jim Renacci hosted a Veterans Forum at Tri-C's Western Campus in Parma to allow local veterans to discuss veterans' benefits with representatives of the Department of Veterans Affairs.
Rick DeChant, Tri-C's Executive Director of Veterans Services and Programs, delivered the introduction for the forum; and Tri-C also provided information regarding utilizing veterans' education benefits.To learn more about Tri-C's Veterans Services and Programs, please visit www.tri-c.edu/veterans.

Cleveland Corporate Challenge Kickball Event Hosted at Tri-C's Western Campus
Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) was pleased to partner with Hermes Sports and Events to host the 2013 Cleveland Corporate Challenge Kickball Event at the Western Campus in Parma June 29-30. Teams representing more than 90 Northeast Ohio companies participated.
This was a great opportunity for these local companies to engage in some friendly competition and enjoy the lovely facilities at Tri-C! |

Opened in 1963, Cuyahoga Community College (Tri-C) is Ohio's first community college and remains the state's largest, serving more than 52,000 students each year. More than 900,000 county residents have come through Tri-C's doors.
The college offers two-year associate degrees, certificate programs, and the first two years of a baccalaureate degree. The curriculum includes over 1,000 credit courses in more than 140 career, certificate and university transfer programs.
Courses are offered at four campus locations, two Corporate College facilities, many off-campus sites, and via television and the Internet.
