Dr. Weaver and WRR Team Members Volunteer at Two-Day Dental Clinic in North Philadelphia
Over 1800 patients were treated at the MOM-n-PA annual free dental clinic on May 31-June 1 at Temple University's Liacouras Center. Returning to his alma mater, Dr. Todd Weaver, F.A.G.D., '91, assisted by his daughter Keri, joined the 249 dentists who volunteered their time to provide dental care to the most needy, many of whom are from working families who do not have access or cannot afford dental insurance.
In addition, WRR Team members also helped out. "Volunteering administrative services with my team member Sherry Detweiler was inspiring and eye opening," says Patti Post. "There is such an overwhelming need for dental care in our extended community of Philadelphia, as there is all over our country. I wanted to be able to contribute to help make a difference. The next time this event or a similar one comes to our area, we will definitely be a part of it."

Creating Smiles for All Ages: Periodontics
Periodontal disease, or gum disease, is an infection of the tissues that surround and support your teeth. It is caused by plaque, the sticky film of bacteria that is constantly forming on our teeth, and because it is usually painless, patients may not know they have it.
Some factors that increase the risk of developing gum disease include poor oral hygiene, smoking, genetics, crooked teeth that are hard to keep clean, pregnancy, diabetes, and taking certain types of medications.
The early stage of gum disease, called gingivitis, can cause your gums to become red, swollen or bleed easily. Gingivitis can often be eliminated by a professional cleaning followed by daily brushing and flossing. Advanced gum disease is called periodontitis, which can lead to the loss of tissue and bone that support the teeth and it may become more severe over time.
"It's very important to have regular checkups and periodontal examinations so we can be proactive in treating any problems," says Dr. John Reckner. "We can care for patients at all stages of gum disease, if they need scaling treatment, or in the most advanced cases, dental implants. Always brush your teeth twice a day, floss between your teeth, and eat a healthy diet to prevent or keep periodontal disease from becoming more serious."
Call our office at 215-723-2162 or email to make an appointment for a dental check-up.

In Our Patients' Words
Reviews on RateADentist.com and Facebook
"My son had a great check up, made easier by the hygienist. She spoke with him and treated him, giving him choices along the way, giving him a say in how his check up was going to go. He was thrilled to have another great check up. Dr. Reckner also listened to him, and explained about braces in the future. As always your office is superb.
