Street Yoga Seattle

Big Love From Street Yoga! {Seattle Newsletter, February 2014}
Dear friends,

Happy February!  First, THANK YOU to everyone who everyone who loved and supported Street Yoga throughout 2013.  We were more than blessed by how freely you gave of your time, energy, experience, and finances.  Because of you, Street Yoga ended 2013 strong.

SPECIAL THANKS to...

2013 December 'Campaign for Kids' donors!  We are humbled by your generosity, grateful for your support, and even more committed to offering thoughtful, inspired, trauma-informed yoga classes to our youth and on-going education for our volunteers.

Street Yoga has exciting news!

In 2012-13 Street Yoga partnered with Ryther Child Center to study the impact of yoga on body awareness and resilience.  Available here is an info graphic for your reference, results at a glance!  Full article available soon.

HIGHLIGHT:

37.5% more study participants self-reported that they "notice [their feelings] without having to react to them."  This is significant, as the lack of ability to emotionally self-regulate is one of the most prominent features of youth who have experienced trauma (van der Kolk, 2003, Trauma Center at the Justice Resource Institute).

Yoga is a tool helping young people heal from their past traumas.   Street Yoga is thrilled to be on the forefront of the emerging field of yoga as therapy.

Again, thank you for your support throughout 2013, and thanks for making it possible for us to continue to do high quality and meaningful work!

In gratitude,

Jessica Osberg
