What a year! I'm proud to say we've had many outstanding successes in all departments throughout 2014.

Highlights include placing positive articles about our clients in media outlets nationwide, helping secure jobs on large construction projects, recovering a record dollar amount in back wages, producing a successful series of webinars on prevailing wage compliance for a national audience, developing high-quality marketing pieces - from flyers and brochures to videos and social media messages - and helping our clients elect leaders who value the importance of good wages and benefits.

We are proud of our talented team that works in the trenches to ensure our clients fulfill their vision. Have a wonderful Christmas and a safe new year with your loved ones. Let's make 2015 another great year!

Sincerely,

TCLG secures $1.1 million in back wages

Torres Consulting and Law Group compliance specialists were essential in helping recover almost $1.1 million in back wages, as of Dec. 15, for construction workers nationwide.

By proactively monitoring projects and working with contracting officers, contractors, labor unions and the U.S. Department of Labor, TCLG protects working families from wage theft.

Our team staunchly defends the ability to get paid for the work performed and seeks to ensure all contractors follow the rules. Read about our recent wins.

Educating clients to protect jobs, wages

Our compliance team developed a new online series of workshops for the United Association, which represents more than 370,000 plumbers, pipefitters, sprinkler fitters, service technicians and welders. Business managers, agents and organizers throughout North America learned the importance of participating in U.S. Department of Labor Davis-Bacon Wage Surveys and best practices for protecting job duties and wages of specific skilled trades.

TLG wins: Removing 'Cesar Chavez' from ballot, protecting integrity of voting process

Torres Law Group successfully removed several candidates from ballots this year - one of them making national headlines and many comedic mentions. That case featured a man who changed his name to that of the late labor and civil rights activist Cesar Chavez.

TLG represented Alejandro Chavez,
grandson of the real Cesar Chavez, to remove the candidate from the Democratic primary ballot. The man, formerly known as Scott Fistler, was running for office in Arizona's 7th Congressional District.

The Washington Post quoted TLG Attorney Jim Barton explaining his client's motivation to pursue legal action. The case received attention from various local and national news outlets, including ReutersAPPolitico and the Huffington Post

GR efforts lead to jobs for working families

Our government relations team mobilized Arizona building trades unions to promote job creation and economic development in the West Valley. The result: the Glendale City Council voted to remove barriers to the construction of the $600 million West Valley Resort and Casino.

The productive relationship between TCLG and the Tohono O'odham Nation, as well as the building trades unions' reputation for high-quality work, led to union contractors being selected for the iron, electrical, plumbing and mechanical work on the project.

Marketing 101: Developing a dynamic message for SMACNA-Arizona

Words and images make or break marketing campaigns. The Arizona chapter of the Sheet Metal and Air Conditioning Contractors' National Association turned to our public relations team to develop messages that not only help promote the value and expertise of its contractors, but also shine light on an initiative to get more fire dampers inspected.

The multimedia campaign is currently under way. Stay tuned.

PR clients profit from earned media efforts

Good news goes a long way to helping build a positive image and reputation. But good news doesn't matter if it doesn't get to the right audience.

Our PR team takes a smart approach to getting news published. It starts with building strong relationships with reporters, knowing the media's audience and promoting stories that resonate with that audience.

This year our PR team successfully placed numerous stories, editorials and jobsite photos in many local and national media outlets, including ENR-Southwest, ABC7-Los Angeles, The Arizona Republic, The Sacramento Bee, The Fresno Bee, Univision, The Ironworker and UA Journal. Read up on some Ironworker projects, including the WWII Memorial and Miracle League ballpark in Arizona and the High Roller in Las Vegas. And check out a recent article about the value of apprenticeship programs, offered by the building trades, to develop skilled workers.

Staff helps feed starving children

Not only is it important for TCLG to make a difference in the lives of working families, we believe in giving back to our community and helping others in need.

That's why our team volunteered at Feed My Starving Children earlier this year to package more than 160 boxes filled with meals specially made for malnourished children. Our team plans several activities with community service in mind throughout the year.
