It's been a busy year for TCLG. Our compliance team's efforts turned into a number of big wins - a huge one in Florida - this year. The team is looking to uncover wage theft and level the playing field for our contractors at every opportunity. We expect to share more news in the weeks to come.

We've also been working on a number of key construction projects that could create thousands of jobs in Arizona, including the West Valley Resort and Casino. But that's not the end of the story, as our government relations team keeps pressing forward to develop opportunities for working families in Arizona and nationally. We're making a difference by teaching our clients about political involvement and growing the influence of PACs.

Meanwhile, our PR team continues to generate positive earned media for clients nationally. We had a media frenzy - lots of ink and airtime - over in California as we promoted various training programs that help working families get good-paying jobs.

We're proud of our work and our team. Have a wonderful Thanksgiving, and let's make the rest of the year a successful one.

Sincerely,

Florida workers recover nearly $300,000

Torres Consulting and Law Group is on a mission to uncover wage theft.

Our efforts paid off big in Florida. On
behalf of the Florida Pipe Trades, our team of compliance specialists sought to recover wages for pipefitter work that had been improperly classified on a Kennedy Space Center project under the Davis-Bacon Act. Ultimately, the U.S. Department of Labor found a Florida-based contractor misclassified and underpaid for work performed, and our firm helped recover nearly $300,000 in wages and benefits for many workers.

TCLG promotes economic development efforts to help working families

Jobs matter in this economy. That's why TCLG keeps close watch on development efforts affecting the construction industry.

The $600 million West Valley Resort and Casino development - which recently broke ground - will create up to 3,000 construction jobs. During a critical discussion about the casino's future, our government relations team helped fill the Glendale City Council chamber with about 200 pipefitters, electricians, ironworkers and sheet metal tradesmen to showcase the importance of those jobs for working families. Managing Partner Israel Torres spoke before the council on several occasions, emphasizing the need for skilled workers and highlighting the training provided by trade unions.

Israel Torres joins national training panel

The United Association, which represents nearly 370,000 union members, invited Torres Consulting and Law Group Managing Partner Israel G. Torres to educate business managers and business agents in a series of prevailing wage workshops nationally.

Torres recently shared his expertise on prevailing wage regulations that govern public works projects during events in Chicago and Portland, Ore.
PR client attracts major media attention

Our public relations team coordinated massive media coverage for the District Council of Iron Workers of the State of California and Vicinity.

Media attendance at the 2014 Ironworkers apprentice competition included the area's largest newspaper, The Fresno Bee, and local Fresno television crews from ABC7, Univision 21, CBS 47 and KSEE 24.

Stories about the competition aired on all the local Fresno TV stations and made the front page of The Fresno Bee. Check out the paper's online coverage.

Los Angeles media also devoured our PR's team promotion of a women's Ironworker training program. Both ABC7 and Univision aired news stories about the effort to recruit women into the trade. Watch the segment that ran on Univision.

Torres Law Group clients come out winners

Several candidates for state legislative seats turned to Torres Law Group this election to address challenges related to expenditures using public finance campaign funds.

Attorney Jim Barton spoke on behalf of four Democratic candidates before the Arizona Citizens Clean Elections Commission. In every case, the commission sided with TLG clients.

Arizona building trades members partner with TCLG to help seniors in need
Giving back to the community we serve is a priority at our firm. That's why we partnered with our clients to create Helping Hands for Seniors.

The program provides free minor home repairs to low-income seniors living in Maricopa County. The Arizona Building and Construction Trades Council partnered with TCLG to provide the volunteer labor and materials to do the fixes.

The Sun City West widow who benefited from the first project is thrilled she can live comfortably and independently thanks to our repairs. Learn more about our inaugural project.

We wish you a Happy Thanksgiving!

Our staff works hard on behalf of working families. We invest in training and team-building activities to ensure our specialists provide great service. Our signature staff-development event took place at Disneyland this year. The team returned refreshed and ready to tackle big events, including the League of Arizona Cities and Towns and UA Local 469 Big Day of Action.
