JCJC and CJJT&R Position Announcements
The Juvenile Court Judges' Commission is seeking applicants for the position of Director, Center for Juvenile Justice Training and Research. This position is responsible for planning, directing, and coordinating all programs administered at the Center for Juvenile Justice Training and Research at Shippensburg University.
This is a civil service position. Applicants must possess seven years of professional juvenile justice experience which includes five years of experience as a juvenile probation officer and two years in an administrative, supervisory, or professional juvenile court consultative capacity; and a Master's degree in criminal justice, criminology, or the behavioral sciences.

21st National Symposium Call for Presentations
The National Partnership for Juvenile Services is pleased to issue a "Call for Presentations" for our upcoming 21st National Symposium on Juvenile Services being held September 27 - October 1, 2015 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania at the Wyndham Grand Hotel. To make this Symposium a success, we need juvenile services professionals to share their experiences and expertise.
Prospective workshop presenters are encouraged to submit proposals on a variety of topics including, but not limited to Current & Emerging Issues for the Juvenile Justice Practitioner, PREA Issues and Updated, Training and Performance Improvement for Staff, Implementing & Evaluating Effective Educational Strategies for Youth, Leadership Issues, Strategies for Understanding and Effectively Addressing DMC, Providing Services for Youth in Adult Facilities, and Community-Based Services.
Call for Presentations
Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice To Hold Webinar Meeting
On Monday, April 20, 2015, from 1 to 4 p.m. ET, the Federal Advisory Committee on Juvenile Justice (FACJJ) will convene via webinar. The agenda will include (a) introductions and webinar logistics; (b) welcoming remarks by OJJDP Administrator Robert L. Listenbee; (c) FACJJ subcommittee reports (legislation, expungement/sealing of juvenile court records, and research/publications); (d) FACJJ administrative business; and (e) summary, next steps, and meeting adjournment.
Composed of members of state advisory groups on juvenile justice, the committee advises the President and Congress on matters related to juvenile justice, evaluates the progress and accomplishments of juvenile justice activities and projects, and advises the OJJDP Administrator on the work of OJJDP.

Abstract:
A recent study found that about 7 percent of youth between the ages of 12 and 17 have a substance use disorder. But drug and alcohol abuse is even higher among juvenile offenders. It's estimated that up to 67 percent of juvenile detainees meet the criteria for a substance use disorder.
Free Online Article Available on Psychiatric Disorders and Violence in Delinquent Youth
The "Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry" website is providing free access to a recently published article examining the relationship between psychiatric disorders and violence in delinquent youth after detention. The article is based on findings from the Northwestern Juvenile Project, a longitudinal study of a diverse sample of juvenile detainees. The study was cosponsored by OJJDP. Free online access is available through May 6, 2015.
