Webinar on Trauma and Juvenile Justice

Please join the National Center for Mental Health and Juvenile Justice and the Mental Health and Juvenile Justice Collaborative for Change for an upcoming webinar on "Essential Elements of a Trauma-Informed Juvenile Justice System." This 90-minute session will take place on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 1:00 and will provide an overview of:

  • evidenced-based strategies for identifying and responding to youth in need of trauma-informed services
  • integrating a trauma-informed approach into juvenile justice policies and practice
  • fostering a more trauma-informed juvenile justice staff

Presenters will  include:

  • Julian Ford, Professor, Department of Psychiatry at UConn Health
  • Keith Cruise, Associate Professor, Department of Psychology at Fordham University
  • Chris Branson, Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at Mount Sinai School of Medicine, Mount Sinai St. Luke's Hospital

Webinar To Discuss Courts and Juvenile Justice

On January 28, 2015, from 3 to 4:30 p.m. ET, OJJDP-in collaboration with the U.S. Departments of Justice and Education and the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration of the Department of Health and Human Services-will present "Courts and Juvenile Justice." This Webinar will highlight strategies to prevent youth contact with the juvenile justice system, improve services for those in confinement, and support juvenile reentry. Presenters will address data collection, diversion options, partnerships between courts and schools, behavioral supports and education, and the transition of students returning to school. This Webinar is the fourth in the new Supportive School Discipline Initiative (SSDI) series.

The JJDPA: Updating Federal Law to Reflect New Reforms

The juvenile justice field has come a long way since the JJDPA was first enacted, and even since 2002 when it was last reauthorized. 

 

Please join CJJ and the National Juvenile Justice Network for a webinar on "The JJDPA: Updating Federal Law to Reflect New Reforms" on February 5 at 3:00pm ET. 


The webinar will provide an overview of how this legislation has helped drive reform at the state and local levels. Presenters will also discuss how we can help ensure that federal policy reflects the new knowledge, advancements, and promising practices from the field, and how a reauthorized JJDPA might change the future landscape of juvenile justice practice.
