At the June Board Meeting for JDCAP, the members voted to re-write the Bylaws to define membership as follows:

Full Membership - Eligible members include secure detention programs, juvenile justice programs as well as alternative programs designed to provide balance and restorative justice.

Subsequently, the Board voted to revise the dues structure to make membership more inviting for interested organizations.

And yet to come, the Board will be undergoing a renaming/re-branding process in July with the goal to hold a grand opening of our new association brand in August. The Board also agreed to seek input from our stakeholders as we consider how to "re-brand" JDCAP.

Boundaries, Barriers, Balance & Beyond

September 28-October 1, 2014

Pittsburgh, PA

As a reminder, Pennsylvania is hosting the WWICJJ (Women Working in Corrections and Juvenile Justice) Conference.  It will be held September 28 thru October 1, 2014, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.  Corrections professionals worldwide have been attending this National Conference since 1985 when the first conference was held at Eastern Kentucky University.  The conference has been hosted by many different states and continues to address the many significant issues including training, education, opportunities, professional and personal growth and development, along with providing networking opportunities for colleagues who understand the many different dynamics for women working in corrections and juvenile justice.  To respond to the continued need for growth and development and to address systemic issues, we have chosen the theme Boundaries, Barriers, Balance & Beyond for the 2014 Conference.

Below is our website and Facebook link.  Please pass this onto your colleagues or those in your Department you believe would benefit from this conference.

OJJDP Announces New Smart on Juvenile Justice Funding Opportunities

OJJDP is promoting reform through the adoption of evidence-based practices and a developmentally appropriate approach to juvenile justice. OJJDP is aware of the growing body of research on effective community-based approaches to juvenile crime and the limited impact that secure placement has on reducing juvenile offending and recidivism. OJJDP has incorporated this research into the development of a Smart on Juvenile Justice strategy that focuses on implementing juvenile justice reforms to maximize cost savings and strategically reinvesting the savings while supporting statewide system change. OJJDP has announced the following fiscal year 2014 funding opportunities as part of its Smart on Juvenile Justice strategy:
