We continue to field a lot of questions from providers and juvenile justice stakeholders about how to determine if the PREA Standards and PREA compliance applies to them. We recommend that you carefully evaluate the language found in the Federal Register; Federal Register June 20, 2012

We suggest that you visit the PREA Resource Center's "frequently asked questions" page on their website to see how some of these questions have been addressed to date.

We also recommend you engage in discussions with other stakeholders about the risks or rewards associated with any potential decision you may make.

PREA Resources

There is a new FAQ response on the PREA Resource Center website relating to the Governor's Certification.

Within the last two months the Audit tab has been added to the PREA Resource Center website, where valuable information can be found about the specific questions that will be asked during an audit. Please note that the Audit tool available at this time is for adult facilities, however there are only a few questions that will be worded differently to address the juvenile standards. So please have a copy of the juvenile standards available for comparison as you read the audit questions.
