Information Sharing and Updates

PREA Resources

JDCAP is offering our assistance to all juvenile justice facilities interested in planning for PREA implementation. To better allow us to help you, we will be providing PA specific updates in our Weekly JDreCAP. If you have questions about PREA, the PREA audit process or other related issues, please email wbear@pacounties.org to submit your questions/comments. We will research the question and provide responses each week.

Our first week's update is designed to offer you some feedback that was helpful information offered at our conference.

We encourage each facility to identify an individual(s) who will become most familiar with PREA. This individual will likely be identified as your PREA coordinator. The materials below will be very helpful in planning and implementing PREA. These items can be downloaded at the following links:

Juvenile Facility Standards: PREA Final Standards Type-Juveniles

The Auditor Compliance Tool for juvenile facilities has not yet been released, however the adult tool (below) will give you an excellent idea about what auditors will be looking and asking for when they visit your facility.

Our recommendation is to print both documents and then review the adult tool and insert any different language for the Standard to more clearly see how the auditor will measure compliance.

Auditor Compliance Tool: Auditor Compliance Tool Final 2

For example; the juvenile standards § 115.313 Supervision and monitoring has language specific to juvenile facilities in 115.13 (a) (11) Any other relevant factors.

Become a PREA Auditor

DOJ and BJA are seeking applications from qualified individuals who are interested in becoming certified a Prison Rape Elimination Act (PREA) auditors. DOJ will train and certify selected individuals to conduct PREA audits using the PREA audit instrument. Submit application online. (BJA)
