JDCAP is hosting our annual Juvenile Justice Conference Sept 24-27 at the Penn Stater, State College PA with special sessions available for 3800 Licensed facilities providing services for juvenile justice referrals.

 

Please share this announcement will all impacted juvenile justice facilities.

 

In response to the Bureau of Human Service Licensing recent announcement regarding the implementation of PREA Standards for Juvenile Justice Facilities, JDCAP is shifting the focus of our annual conference to offer an agenda focused on PREA implementation in PA.JDCAP is working with the Bureau of Juvenile Justice Services, the PREA Resource Center and DPW to offer sessions designed to address PA specific issues for PREA implementation.

The next JDCAP Training Committee meeting is scheduled for Tuesday August 27, 10AM - 2PM at the Lancaster County Youth Intervention Center. The training committee will be sent a proposed agenda in advance of this meeting.

 

The next JDCAP Standards Committee meeting is scheduled for Wed August 15 (10:00 AM) at the Abraxas Academy in Morgantown PA. During this meeting, we will review the Physical Plant standards.

Webinar To Explore Trauma-Informed Practices in Schools

On July 24, 2013, at 3 p.m. ET, the U.S. Departments of Justice, Education, and Health and Human Services will present the Webinar "Transforming School Climate Through Trauma Informed Practices." This 90-minute Webinar, the seventh in a series from the Supportive School Discipline Initiative, will examine the impact of discipline policies and strategies on student behavior, staff morale, and school safety; how some discipline responses can traumatize or re-traumatize youth and trauma-informed alternatives; and the impact of trauma on the behavior of youth with disabilities.

 

Coordinating Council Quarterly Meeting To Address Juvenile Justice Report

On July 26, 2013, from 10:00 a.m. to 12 p.m. ET, the Coordinating Council on Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention will convene in Washington, DC, to discuss the National Academy of Sciences report, "Reforming Juvenile Justice: A Developmental Approach." Council members will address the report's implications for youth programs, policy, and practice. The Council, chaired by Attorney General Eric Holder, Jr., coordinates federal programs relating to juvenile delinquency prevention and missing and exploited children. Robert L. Listenbee, Administrator of the Office of Juvenile Justice and Delinquency Prevention, serves as vice chair.
