Conference Award Nomination

Below is the nomination that JDCAP received for Mike Dannaker- Chester County Youth Center, Staff Person of the Year.

Chester County is very proud to submit Mike Dannaker's name for this year's JDCAP Staff Person of the year. Mike was hired in 1994 as a Part Time Detention Officer. He has worked as a Supervisor with our organization since 2000. He became Full Time Supervisor in 2009. As Supervisor for the 8-4 shift, Mike has oversight over all daily operations within the Center.

As the 8-4 Supervisor, Mike helps out with daily operations at the Center. He helps out with our Nursing department making sure youth are present for physicals and dental appointments. He also is actively involved in on shelter operations. He helps to coordinate shelter trips and makes sure that coverage on both Detention and Shelter are maintained to provide safety and security for our residents. Mike is also one of our Weekend Supervisors who is "On Call" and does an excellent job checking in to make sure operations here at the Center are seamless, and effective.

Mike has also been instrumental in helping to revise our Policy and Procedure Manual for the Center. Mike's years of experience, have made him invaluable in making changes in our Manual. Mike also provides oversight with our Intake Screening Process Juvenile Detention Center (JDC) program. He periodically reviews intakes and releases to ensure that the right fields are complete and accurate; he also coordinates with our Casework Department to make sure that the data entered is accurate.

Over the past year, Mike has been very active in our interview process. Mike is always trying to improve as a Supervisor. Mike enrolled in a course with our county on Interviewing Skill in 2011, and since that time has done a tremendous job in revising and implementing our interview process so to ensure sure we have the right candidate for the job.

Mike has been indispensable in his role as Detention Supervisor here at the Chester County Youth Center. His "can do" attitude is a tribute to hard work and perseverance. He has time and time again demonstrated a strong ability to identify, analyze, and solve a problem in a positive and proactive manner. His loyalty to the organization is without question, and he accepts challenges willingly. Mike should be acknowledged as JDCAP "Staff of the Year" because he truly epitomized everything this award stands for and he has made my job as a Director that much easier.
