Fruit Trees and Berries

Greetings!

            Greeting from Mark Halla

Hello" and "Thank You" for subscribing to our e-newsletter!

I absolutely love this time of year! The change of seasons brings on amazing fall colors, cooler weather, and the promise of a "season of rest" to come as soon as the snow begins to fall in a few short months.

What I like most of all, however, is all of the fruit that has now ripened (or soon will) and can be plucked directly from its source. I have already tasted some delectable plums, some tasty grapes, and the sweetness of late season raspberries. The apples (and edible crabapples) are not quite ready, but the tartness of an early bite only excites me more for the sweetness to come!

As I have reflected on and eaten all the tasty fruit God created and provides for us, I can't help but think of Galatians 5:22, where God tells us that the fruit of His Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. I have to admit, those are the fruits I most desire in my life.

I also have to admit that those are the fruits I think we most need in our company. This year has been a difficult one. Having taken on our second location over the winter and then experienced the latest spring we have ever had, we were well behind before we even got started. There was so much work to do that our focus was on our tasks, not our relationships. Perhaps you experienced some of the sourness of the stress we were dealing with. If you did, I sincerely apologize and I ask your forgiveness! I also promise you that we are getting re-aligned with our founding principles, which can be found in the pages of Scripture.

Fruit trees in the north?

Apple Tree

For you northern gardeners, fruit trees can be a challenge. Happily, though, you will find some hardy varieties of certain fruit trees that can withstand our long winters. In addition, you'll especially find a satisfying variety of apple trees that, if tended and nurtured correctly, can actually thrive in our northern climate. The University of Minnesota has a helpful website on this topic of growing fruit in Minnesota, and you'll  find it here.

You can also visit either of our locations now to learn more about fruit trees and also to see what we have on hand that might fit your planting plans.

TRENDING NOW Blueberry

Small fruits: Easy to add to your landscape garden

And, speaking of fruits, you'll find a variety of smaller fruits-blueberries, raspberries,  strawberries, etc.-that actually do quite well in our cold northern climes. Again, that same University of Minnesota website can be a helpful resource. Specifically, the site includes information about growing these smaller fruits in home gardens. Visit the site here.

OUTDOOR LIVING

The Jonathan Project:

null This project took place throughout the Jonathan Association, a community of 22 neighborhoods that began in 1967 as a planned community in Chaska. The main portion of the project added vibrant season long color to each of the 22 neighborhood signs along Bavaria Road, Hundertmark and Pioneer Trail with roses, grasses and perennials. The Mustard Seed also added new color to the association's office at the Karen House off Bavaria Road and great fall color from  Joe Pye Weed at the obelisk round-about by Clover Ridge Elementary. In addition to new plantings, maple trees were planted along boulevards and in parks throughout the community.
