EXPRESSIVE ARTS COMMUNITY NETWORKING

Networking is a monthly event for practitioners and students of the expressive arts and related fields.  Come and share what you are doing, get support, and experience a facilitated experience by a guest presenter.

We are excited to welcome:
Lisa R.W. Richardson, MAAT, LMHC
Lisa in Venice Theater's production of "Hairspray"

Moving to Florida in 2010 with a Masters in Art Therapy and a Counseling License, I also carried with me a dream to share with the world the importance of the individual's creative process. Creativity as a means toward self-understanding, tension release, and communicating difficult emotions. Art Therapy taught us how to use visual thinking in a clinical setting, where I had the honor of guiding people in a way that was less destructive than their current approach of self-soothing. We also learned how to work with the art product to "take temperature" of where someone was at in the moment, to assess and work the garnered information into processing conversations. "To meet the client where he, or she was at."

My preferred way to personally work is to lay out colors, select the one that grabs my attention and begin to make marks. That is the first step to my journey, and I would like very much to share it with you. In addition to creation is the processing, we will bear witness for each other, and share the story of our artwork as we are able. We will take this experience with us into our life allowing it to be a thread in our own personal tapestry.

I look forward to meeting you, and creating with you.

Lisa's process will  be followed by a group discussion of the relationship between Expressive Arts and Art Therapy.
