BEING YOUR OWN VILLAGE
"A celebration of your inner strengths"

Expressive Arts Workshop

Cynthia Bydlinski & Muff Calderon

Thursday, May 16
6-9 pm
$40

Most of us have an intense desire to feel like we are being the best person we can be, that we are fulfilling our destiny and that our lives have purpose and meaning. At the heart of this desire is understanding and embracing who we are and what strengths we possess.

Being Your Own Village is a 3-hour expressive arts workshop designed to encourage you to maintain or regain power through your life's journey by celebrating your inner strengths.

You may know the old proverb, It takes a village to raise a child. Being Your Own Village honors the assistance and guidance you receive from others, however, listening to and following your own inner voice of intuition is an acknowledgment of your natural ability to steer the course of your life's direction.

By using multiple modalities of visual art, spontaneous writing, gentle movement and sound we will lead you inward to connect with your own source of wisdom, power and peace. After a guided meditation you will create a 3-d art piece, a headdress, that reflects and honors your personal inner strengths. We will end with a celebration of sharing with gentle movement, sound and music.

Join Cynthia and Muff in a safe space as you begin to lift the layers of your inner landscape to feel, see and listen to what is beneath.   All levels of art experience are welcome, including beginners, working artists, and people who think they aren't creative. The atmosphere will be safe and accepting; no critiques or interpretations.

Art materials will be supplied. However, you may bring objects found in nature or in your home to be used in the construction of your headdress.
Register online here
Or send check to Expressive Arts Florida, 200 S. Washington Blvd. Suite 1, Sarasota, FL, 34236
Registration Deadline: Sunday, May 12, 2013

EXPRESSIVE ARTS COMMUNITY NETWORKING
Wednesday April 29; 6:30-8:30 pm

$10
Networking is a monthly event for practitioners and students of the expressive arts and related fields.  Come and share what you are doing, get support, and participate in a facilitated experience.

Reservations required.

Traveling Postcards is a humanitarian organization founded on the premise that art has the ability to heal, feed and transform our lives. Hundreds of unique, hand -made art postcards, containing words of compassion and solidarity are hand delivered to individuals and communities, bringing awareness, hope, visibility, beauty and voice to women and girls whose lives have suffered from isolation, violence or repression.
We connect hearts from around the world despite economic, cultural and geographical distance. Through hands-on art making workshops, leadership opportunities, educational resources, virtual galleries and open forums we create a platform that provides anyone with the ability to share art, power and potential with the world.

"We are currently  focusing on the topic of domestic violence and women's resiliency and love. Please feel free to share the wisdom in your heart. Come July , all cards will travel with me in our mobile art booth across the US, in a trip called Shelter to Shelter. You cards will be hand delivered to a woman or girl who has been in a violent situation and is currently living in a shelter. She  will know that another woman sees her, wants to help end violence against all women and is eager to share with her a story of resiliency."  Caroline Lovell, Traveling Postcards Project    At Networking this month, we will create hand made postcards that will be contributed to the Shelter to Shelter project.

An emphasis will be on the power of following the natural creative flow from one arts modality to another.
The learning format is THREE WEEKEND INTENSIVE COURSES per calendar year, generally in January, April, and October in Sarasota, FL. Each weekend is 25 hours of class time. In addition, there is a one-day orientation program for new students. There are also elective credits, which students can often earn in their own community, online communication with an advisor, and a Practicum/Internship at the end of the second year.  We offer flexibility for entry of new students; they may start the program with any of the Level 1 weekend intensives. Our goal is to create a FLEXIBLE LEARNING FORMAT for students traveling to Sarasota from out of the area.

(formerly Coalition for Arts and Health)

Co-Chairs: Elizabeth Bornstein and Hedda Matza-Haughton EXCITING NEWS
The Coalition for Arts and Health and Tampa Bay Arts in Healthcare Collaborative have chosen to join forces! Each organization will maintain its individual identity while working collaboratively to promote the use of the arts to enhance health and well-being in their respective communities and beyond.
As of March 15, 2013, the organizations have changed their names to become: Arts for Health Sarasota-Manatee and Arts for Heath Tampa Bay.
The hope is that this will serve as a model for other Arts for Health groups to form throughout Florida.
