"a.k.a God"

June 28 through July 26, 2015

Did you know that God has many different names? Join us as we study several different names of God, what they mean, and how they can be a personal introduction to a more intimate understanding of God's heart and character.

CELEBRATE ONE

Celebrate One is scheduled for Sunday, July 12th at 10:00am and will be led by the Children's Ministries of Woodlawn.

Celebrate One was birthed out of a desire from the congregation for opportunities to bring all who attend Woodlawn into a corporate gathering during a single worship experience. With so many gifted musicians and leaders in our church, we have the opportunity to combine these talents in worship leadership for one service with an abundance of great music and a strong sense of unity in Christ. This service is usually scheduled for 10:00am on Sunday mornings causing a conflict in some schedules. We, however, encourage everyone to make this a primary commitment to attend in order to build anticipation and enthusiasm for an incredible worship experience of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

GLOBAL LEADERSHIP SUMMIT 2015
We are honored to be a HOST CHURCH SITE for the Global Leadership Summit again this year! The Summit will be held on Thursday & Friday, August 6th & 7th, in the Worship Center. Last year's event was amazing and everyone seemed to walk away refreshed and inspired! The Summit exists to transform Christian leaders around the world with an injection of vision, skill development, and inspiration for the sake of the local church. Everyone has influence and the responsibility to lead well!

The event will be telecast LIVE from Willow Creek's campus near Chicago. Register now by clicking GLS. The registration fee is $89 (normally $189) for our church congregation by using the special priority code GLS15HOST when you register online by June 7th.

COLUMBARIUM

In keeping with the time honored Christian tradition of a dignified final resting place for loved ones, Woodlawn United Methodist Church will soon provide a Columbarium on the church grounds. The word columbarium comes from the Latin word "Columba," meaning dove. It formerly referred to a dovecote, and in Roman times came to mean compartments for keeping cinerary urns. The first phase of the Woodlawn UMC (WUMC) Columbarium has 176 niches, where urns containing cremated remains are placed (inurned). Each niche has the capacity to hold two urns. The niches are sealed with engraved stone fronts showing the name and life dates of those inurned within.

Who may be inurned in the columbarium? Members, pastors and staff of the church, their current or prior spouses, their children (natural and adopted) and step-children, their parents, and ordained Methodist pastors and their current or prior spouses. Other persons may be inurned in the columbarium only if authorized by the church.

Frequently Asked Questions

A. What is the purpose of the Columbarium?

The columbarium is intended to provide opportunities for WUMC members to inurn or remember their loved ones in the Christian tradition, near their church home. It is a reminder of preceding generations, and a sacred place for contemplation on the meaning of faith and eternal life.

B. Who maintains records and operates the columbarium?

The church maintains all files and records for the columbarium, including the identity and the location of those inurned in or removed. The church maintains the columbarium, including the architecture and landscaping, and supervises all service providers, such as water irrigation system, tree care, gardening, and lawn service.

C. Who is on the WUMC Columbarium Oversight committee?

The committee is made up of the WUMC Columbarium Director, the Church Administrator, a current Board of Trustees member, and a staff pastor.

D. What is the Columbarium going to look like?

Please see the artist rendering above. Construction will begin summer 2015.

E. How do I get more information?
