Upper School 101
On January 17, 2014, our 8th grade class will have the opportunity to participate in Upper School 101 which gives our students a taste of what will come during Upper School at Oakcrest.
The 8th grade will attend regular classes for periods 1-3 and 6 and during period 4 will attend two 20-minute classes with our Upper School students and faculty. They will have a lunch provided for them at school and learn about our Veritas Program and after lunch during period 5, the girls will attend a special reflection provided by Fr. Gerry Kolf about ways to prepare for the Upper School years. The day will conclude with completing a "time capsule" which has been a long-standing tradition at Oakcrest. During senior year the class will open their "time capsules" and be able to look back on their earlier years with fondness, laughs and enjoyment. The girls may wear professional dress attire.

"Improving Communication with your Teenager"
Saturday, January 25, 2014 - 7:30 PM
Good communication is like a two-way street; it involves your learning what matters to your teen and your teen learning what matters to you.
Although communicating with teens is sometimes a daunting task, it is not impossible.
Come to a talk about communicating with teens designed especially for mothers of teens, "tweens" and pre-teens. It will help you enhance the well-being of your family by deepening your relationship with your teens through more effective communication.
Ms. Falk lectures throughout the country, encouraging parents to take an active leadership role in the home in order to teach their children the virtues within the natural setting of family life. She offers advice to parents on a wide array of challenges impacting families today. Coming from a large family of extroverts, she has solutions that are practical, humorous and grounded
in common sense.
