Macaulay Honors College, 35 West 67th StreetOne of the most controversial cultural issues in New York is the proposed
change to the New York Public Library, the majestic building on Fifth Avenue
by the great Beaux-Arts firm of architects Carrère & Hastings.
Distinguished architectural historian and writer Francis Morrone, co-author with Henry Hope Reed of "The New York Public Library: The Architecture and Decoration of the Stephen A. Schwarzman Building" (W.W. Norton, 2011),
will present a lavishly illustrated talk on the history and design of this
beloved masterpiece, and what may be in store for its future.
Traditional Building wrote, "The role that Henry Hope Reed and Francis Morrone have set out for themselves in this scholarly - yet easily comprehended - new volume is to help us appreciate the depth of thinking and attention to detail that went into the design of this architectural masterpiece. In many ways, the authors decipher the building the way symbologist Robert Langdon unraveled the mysteries of the Da Vinci Code. Reed and Morrone succeed magnificently as code-breakers."
