Hit the streets at dusk with Thomas Rinaldi, author of New York Neon, for a visual tour and the history of a vanishing piece of the streetscape: neon signage. Join this crepuscular walking tour as we cover the Upper West Side and discover the neighborhood's historic neon signs.

Once a ubiquitous part of the cityscape, NYC's neons are in danger of disappearing. Rinaldi was quoted in the New York Times on June 12, 2012: "Collectively, these things were as significant as the Empire State Building or any icon of the city, but they've been incrementally wiped away." Of the 3,400 permits issued for illuminated signs in Manhattan in 1933, only three of these signs survive today--one being the Upper West Side's Dublin House sign (see above).
