Dear Friends, the coming weeks are jam-packed with programming from LANDMARK WEST! We hope to see you at one or more of the following events in November.

vanishingScreening of The Vanishing City

LW's July 2012 screening of this film was extremely popular and sold out quickly. We are offering a second chance to see this powerful and relevant documentary, followed by a Q&A with the filmmakers.

Told through the eyes of tenants, city planners, business owners, scholars, and politicians, The Vanishing City exposes the real politic behind the alarming disappearance of New York's beloved neighborhoods. Learn more at the film's website.

LW! and artist/author G. Augustine Lynas bring you an hour-long tour of The ABCs of Central Park*. First, we will discover where Lynas' photographs found their inspiration, then we will use our own keen eyes to snap candid photos of what Lynas calls "alpha-branches" and "number-limbs!" fdrAn Exclusive Tour of F.D.R. Four Freedoms Memorial Park

Join LW! and noted tour guide Kyle Johnson for a tram ride to Roosevelt Island and walking tour of the memorial forty years in the making. In 1973 Mayor Lindsay announced that a memorial park at the southern tip of Roosevelt Island for Franklin D. Roosevelt be created. Louis Kahn was selected as the architect and plans were completed. However, Kahn's sudden death in 1974 followed by NYC's fiscal crises of the 1970s diminished the priority of Four Freedoms Park. On October 24, 2012, the FDR Four Freedoms Park opened to the public; a project which began forty years ago. Read more, in the New York Times article "Decades Later, A Vision Survives" from 9/12/2012.

"Surely, in the light of history, it is more intelligent to hope rather than to fear, to try rather than not to try. For one thing we know beyond all doubt. Nothing has ever been achieved by the person who says, 'It can't be done.'" - Eleanor Roosevelt, 1960
