Following a long tradition in Anglicanism, we have invited civic and community leaders to read lessons for us at this weekend's special service of Lessons and Carols:

Our civic leader will be the Hon. Dierdre Waterman, Mayor of Pontiac, who will read our first lesson. Pontiac Mayor Deirdre Waterman is a committed public servant with decades of professional expertise, public service and philanthropic endeavors. She was elected mayor by the citizens of Pontiac in 2013, becoming the first woman to ever be elected to the position. An ophthalmologist by profession, Dr. Waterman is a longtime business owner and operated her practice, Holloway Eye Care, in Pontiac for over thirty years. She was the first African-American female ophthalmologist in the state of Michigan.

Our community leader will be Bruce Peterson, Chair of the Board of Trustees for Cranbrook, who will read our second lesson.

Another community leader who will read is Jerry Sugrue, Treasurer of Crossroads of Michigan and the retired Controller of Holley Automotive.

Turning to our own parish leadership, David Jensen, Chair of the Mission and Outreach Committee, will read the fourth lesson

John Cunningham, Junior Warden of the Vestry, will read the fifth lesson.

Finally, following tradition, the sixth lesson will be read by our Rector, the Rev. Canon Dr. William Danaher, Jr.

We are honored to have Mary McLaren Honsel, Executive Director of Crossroads of Michigan, as our guest preacher for this service. Mary has served as Executive Director of Crossroads of Michigan since 2002. She is the daughter of Crossroads' founder and Episcopal priest, (the late) James A. McLaren. Crossroads offers counseling and support to assist clients to come to terms with their problems and discover solutions at the most basic level possible.

A festive reception will follow the service in the Guild Hall.
All are invited!
