Every nine years the Episcopal church elects a new presiding bishop. the presiding bishop is Primate, Chief Pastor of the Church, Chair of the Executive Council and President of the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society.
The House of Bishops has elected the Right Reverend Michael Curry as our new Presiding Bishop. Bishop Curry is the bishop of the Diocese of North Carolina.
A liturgy marking the beginning of Curry's ministry as presiding bishop and primate will be celebrated Nov. 1, All Saints Day, at Washington National Cathedral.
The election took place Saturday, June 27 at The Episcopal Church's 78th General Convention held in Salt Lake City, Utah.
