Every nine years, The Episcopal Church elects a new Presiding Bishop.
The Presiding Bishop serves a nine-year term. The Presiding Bishop is Primate, Chief Pastor of the Church, Chair of the Executive C ouncil, and President of the Domestic and Foreign Missionary Society.
Our current Presiding Bishop is the Most. Rev. Dr. Katherine Jefferts Schori. Jefferts Schori was elected at the 75th General Convention on June 18, 2006 and was invested at Wahsington National Cathedral on November 4, 2006
The Joint Nominating Committee for the Election of the Presiding Bishop has issued a press release announcing the nominees for the 27th Presiding Bishop of The Episcopal Church. The election will take place at The Episcopal Church's 78th General Convention which will be held in Salt Lake City, Utah on June 27.
